Confession: I don’t carry a wallet. I haven’t in years, perhaps even since college. In my bag, I have a slim Proenza Schouler billfold for cash and a Marc Jacobs card case that’s attached to my keys, and because I’m something of a minimalist when it comes to what I put inside my handbag, I usually leave it at that.

I think we can safely say the celeb obsession with Celine Luggage Totes has peaked. We’ve seen fewer and fewer celebs with their Celines in recent weeks, but here’s actress Jordana Brewster (of TNT’s Dallas and the Fast & Furious franchise, natch) carrying a Celine Luggage Tote in LA. It’s curious to see how certain bag trends mozy around Hollywood, from the hyper couture fashion-obsessed set, to stylists, A-listers, ridiculously wealthy reality stars and then well, everyone else.
You’ve done it! You’ve made it through the majority of the week! (Hey, it’s Wednesday afternoon, that totally counts.) (At least on the East Coast.) By now, you’ve probably spotted something on this here Internet that’s making your credit card cower in fear, and we know that we certainly have. That’s why we reserve Want It Wednesday for exactly this time of week – the beautiful things from Gianvito Rossi, Mara Hoffman and Erickson Beamon that we’re craving give us the courage to press through and continue to do things that earn our paychecks.
There seem to be two distinct things going on with Valentino’s Resort 2014 Handbags, which are available for just-off-the-runway pre-order via Moda Operandi through July 1. First, the brand seems to be experimenting with a bit of a toned-down “heritage” look; simple, somewhat traditional shoulder bags and totes in tan and navy where the quality and grain of the leather is the main attraction, plus a few conservatively striped shoulder bags in woven textiles.
Second markdowns are great, but sometimes it can be hard to know what’s the best deal and what’s just as expensive as it was a week ago. With the ShopBop 25% Off All Sale coupon code, you can avoid all that confusion – today and tomorrow, take an extra 25% off all markdowns with code EXTRA25 at checkout!
Even if you don’t spend as much time online shopping as I do (and for the sake of your work performance and/or the well-being of your children, I hope you don’t), you’ve probably gotten a distinct sense of the “blahs” over the past two weeks. After the initial frenetic rush of sale season passed, there’s been little to amuse ourselves with except for a few stray pre-fall arrivals and the occasional attempt to squint at the tiny, half-obscured accessories in Resort 2014 lookbooks.
Heidi Klum was recently spotted carrying a Michael Kors Miranda Bag while out with her bodyguard/boyfriend Martin Kristen in NYC. Here they are coming out of the Louis Vuitton store in Soho, which now boasts a brand new Atelier. Her towering pumps are, of course, the Christian Louboutin Pigalle Pumps. The Miranda is an interesting bag – two top flaps fold over to form a solid rectangle shape, and everything stays secure with a sort of bolo-esque tie closure.
Normally I don’t like a clip show, especially a two-hour clip show, but Bravo did a pretty good job with its 100th-episode anniversary edition of Real Housewives of Orange County last night. The show has been on for a sufficiently long period of time (seven years) and has been sufficiently formative to contemporary television (for better or for worse) that a look back is probably in order.
I went to the beach this weekend. On the surface, that sounds simple enough, but I am not a regular beach-goer. I’ve always loved the ocean, but I tend to be too much of a city-dweller to make it there with any regularity, and as of this weekend’s trip, it had been nearly two years since my most recent previous beach jaunt, and along with that, the last time I packed a beach bag.
Sure, it’s fun to buy cute seasonal stuff to get yourself in the mood for a coming change in the weather. Raffia bags in summer, fur bags in winter – those things have their place. When building a covetable wardrobe of designer handbags, fine watches and jewelry, though, the seasonal stuff isn’t always what makes the world go ’round. If you’re serious about building a collection, or even about acquiring your very first piece to start one, you need to start with the classics.
