We’ve talked in depth about Saint Laurent and its logo bags a lot lately, and while many of you love them, some of you truly don’t care for them at all. It’s understandable to dislike a bag that screams its designer (and with it its price tag) in your face, but Saint Laurent’s logo has become part of the appeal of its bags. It’s hard to think of Saint Laurent before it’s YSL logo hardware, but if you rewind back not one, but two designers ago when the brand was known as Yves Saint Laurent, its many it-bags were mostly logo free.
Prior to Hedi Slimane’s 2012 appointment as creative director for the brand (who has since been replaced by Anthony Vaccarello), Stefano Pilati was responsible for handbag hit after handbag hit. As you’ll see below, celebs were drawn to YSL’s slouchy leather totes, top handle carry-alls and beyond. While celebs are still big fans of the Saint Laurent brand as we know it today, back in the 2000s and early 2010s, stars adored bags like the Tribute and the Muse. Aside from the classic duffle bag seen below, which was Slimane’s debut bag for the French design house, feast your eyes on over a dozen celebs and their favorite YSLs.
