The Sleek Prada Supernova Is Here

Modern and refined, this bag is brand new from Prada. In Collaboration with Prada.

Prada Supernova Handbag Hero

First seen at the Fall/Winter 2022 Prada womenswear show by Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons, the Prada Supernova bag quickly caught the eye of the fashion crowd. Everything about this bag, from curved lines to modern finishes, is purely Prada. And not just Prada of the now, but Prada of the past, and only in a way that the brand can do, seamlessly and effortlessly.

Upon first glance, the bag’s shape ties back to historical designs seen decades before, but with a new contemporary twist. As Prada has been known for its artisanal expertise in leather and accessories since its beginning, this bag aligns with an alluring trapezoidal design and hand-sprayed finishes.

In fact, this is a bag that needs to be studied up close. The ease at which the shape comes together while still giving you the attitude of a modern must-have remains true as ever, and we have a deeper look at the new Prada Supernova Bag.

New and Clean

Upon first glance, you’ll notice the sheen the leather has on these bags, thanks to the ultra-luxe and polished Spazzolato leather. This leather is sturdy and allows the bag to hold its shape quite well while offering a bit of leeway to allow the bag to take a new shape on the sides, too, if you wish. The trapezoidal shape ties back to the timeless lineage of past Prada accessories, and the curved top handles allow for easy wear.

There’s a moodiness to this bag that evokes a feeling of attitude and bounces between strong and feminine. The double-top zippers show freely, which is part of the overall feel and leads the way to the interior. On the inside of the bag, you’ll be met with Nappa leather and find a removable and adjustable thin leather shoulder strap.

Let’s go back to the exterior because there are far more details to discover. While there are solid leather versions, some have an elegant shadow-like finish applied by hand to give an airbrush effect and add to the dimensionality and geometric nature of the design. You’ll find the enameled metal triangle logo on either end of the zipper pull.

Supernova Sizes and Dimensions

There are two different sizes of the Prada Supernova Bag, small and medium. The medium gives an East-West effect, while the small is more square-like. The medium size is 16cm H x 13.5cm L x 31cm W. The small is 18cm H, x 13.5cm L x 25.5cm W. These bags are both large enough for daily carry, and because of the glossy leather, they dress up nicely too.

Finishing Touches: Prada’s RTW

And with a bag as cool as this, the outfit must match the energy equally. These new skirts from Prada are on my wishlist, as is the super wearable tank top. If you want a statement leather jacket, look no further. And these shoes are the finishing touches for the Prada look.

It is no surprise seeing everyone mentioning Antigona when seeing this design.

They both have the same sporty look to them, a kind of ”gym bag” or ”bowling bag” aesthetic. I have been contemplating buying the Antigona to wear with my more sporty outfits, as most of my bags clashes with sportswear, aesthetically. However this was quite pretty too, but I prefer the less eye catching design and finish of the grained leather Antigona for that purpose. 🙂

Also, in general, other than the Prada Saffiano Galleria tote & their nylon bags (notably with their Re-Editions) & and maybe their Cahier bag, I am cautious about Prada’s new lines – they never seem to stick or remain popular 1-2 years after their release.

Any thoughts on that?

That can also be said about Hermes and Dior bags. The exceptions are the classics, Lady Dior, Hermes Birkin and Kelly.

Lady Dior on hit! but have to kinda watch for buying patent leather items; my Chanel handbag is acting up. I say all leather on all brands. .

I agree. I like the classic, original Antigona. This Prada kind of reminds me of a blend of the Givenchy Antigona Soft & Givenchy Antigona Sport…

I do wonder why Givenchy didn’t rename one of the above (Givenchy Antigona Soft & Givenchy Antigona Sport) to a new name/ line.

Because it’s better to keep things simple especially with a successful line. It’s mire recognizable than a new name.

I like this bag but it is so very similar to the Antigona and I have always loved the Antigona! The Antigona is better and cheaper IMO.

Mehh. Agree with the others about the Antigona and I don’t find those hanging tongues on the sides appealing at all.

Agreed. The ombré colors are pretty but my bag doesn’t need ears.

That long zipper is going to be hard to open and close (that’s what much cheaper bag makers do, just leave it long to save craftsmanship costs). When the cursor ends up on the far end, you’d probably have to set the bag down somewhere and adjust it with both hands…

I saw it in RL last weekend. It looks very normal and not nearly as nice as these photos. The price is also ridiculous.

I bought this in black, large size. The large is bigger than expected and probably should have purchased size medium. Otherwise, I love this bag. It maintains its shape, looks and feels sleek and I fell for it the moment I saw it on Prada’s website. It’s a nice classic black bag that’s lightweight and is supple.

Love my Prada bags not sure I’m feeling this style … it does mimic the Antigona bag too stiff looking….

I think like this bag is “Classic Prada” bag. Sporty and sleek. Minimal but bold.
I like that the Prada ‘shield’ is on the zipper. It’s tastefully done.

Don’t really care for this bag. I would also worry the long zippers will be prone to warping/bending and become aesthetically unappealing with use

I have both the soft antigona and this bag – both small. I guess I like this style 🙂
The strap on the antigona is awful, the pegs stab you when you wear as a crossbody and if you flip it over the bulge of the attachment point digs uncomfortably. I need to replace the strap with a flat one. The Prada is lighter and the leather is much softer.

Is the supernova easier to get into than the Antigona? I find the zipper on the Antigona makes it hard to open the bag properly to get things in and out!
