While new bags are released seasonally, brands also like to hone in on a design they want to focus on and reinvigorate as part of a more permanent lineup. The Prada Buckle Bag looks to be receiving this treatment after it was first released for SS24. It continues to be carried over; for Fall 2024, it is given a soft touch and introduced in suede for the first time.
One of Prada’s many feats is its functional carryalls. There is the Galleria, the Re-Edition 1978, and now the Buckle Bag, a highly functional but more soft and inviting design.
Different elements make it fashion-forward and modern, while others draw us back to the brand’s heritage and history. The bag’s duality can be seen in many ways: It is open yet secure, slouchy yet structured, and usable yet fashion-forward. This bag is ideally suited for transitional fall wardrobes while quickly becoming a recurring closet go-to.
In short, the Prada Buckle Bag is my kind of bag.
A Detailed Look
We must start the detailed discussion surrounding the exterior buckle, where the bag receives its name. The buckle detail on the front serves both F categories: function and fashion. You can tighten the bag by the buckle, which will further pull tight the top of the bag, or leave the buckle as is, which leaves an additional strap as the exterior fashion moment.
While the overall aesthetics of the bag matter very much, usability and functionality often seal the deal. We desire a bag that serves a dual purpose: looking good while performing its main job of carrying items. This bag excels in both categories for me.
In a previous feature, we showed the exterior and overall look of the bag, but this time, I want to share more about the interior, which immediately puts this bag into a different category for me, one of more profound love and desire.
While there is a buckle loop that can be closed to keep the top handles together, I like to remove it to allow the bag’s handles to stay open. This leads to the interior, which is where the Buckle Bag shines.
I have often shared my thoughts on the interior of a larger bag needing separation. This bag checks all the boxes. You will find a smooth and supple leather lining and a middle open compartment separator. That means you have three inner areas, equal size in the front and back of the bag, and a slimmer middle compartment.
You will also be met with additional carrying functionality through the clasps that allow for the removable and adjustable leather shoulder strap. These connect on the inside center compartment with the two metal clasps, so they look and feel seamlessly integrated.
In the Buckle bag, Prada proposes a style that feels both sophisticated and approachable
Celebrities Carrying the Prada Buckle Bag
Prada counts many celebrities as fans of the brand, who are seen with its wares and toting its bags. The Buckle Bag has also been given the celebrity treatment and offers us a look at the bag in motion. Seeing the different sizes, materials, and how it is styled and carried gives us more insight into how the bag may work for us.
The Buckle Bag As Seen in the Latest Campaign
The casual and approachable nature of the Prada Buckle Bag is also reflected in the latest ad campaign, which is light-hearted yet fashion-forward. With many standout moments for the bag, we see the brand’s focus on this style as the upcoming season greets us with newness for Fall/Winter 24.
Between the details and seeing the bag in person, I know why Prada has made it a focus. Now, I am back to dreaming about which version will accompany my fall wardrobe.
Prada, stop trying to make your overpriced Buckle bag happen. It’s not going to happen.
Where is the bag made? Website says imported. Not good enough for a 5k bag. Prada is evading sharing the production details because they don’t want to disclose how cheaply it’s made. Seems to be a recurring theme with luxury brands and their unethical manufacturing practices
Prada makes a lot of their “luxury” items in Southeast Asia where labor is cheap, labor laws quasi inexistant, and environmental norms ignored.
This bag is made in Italy and Prada hasn’t made their mainline stuff in Southeast Asia for over half a decade, and when they did, it was only a few. Stop spreading disinformation.
Made in Italy means nothing given that components are imported from different countries. The bag can be mostly assembled and get the finishing touches in Italy and earn the Made in Italy stamp. Inform yourself and stop being so naive.
You literally made a comment to denigrate a brand you had no knowledge of its supply chain only to double down and pivoting to a something adjacent and irrelevant. Please learn WHEN TO STOP.
I actually know Prada and Miu Miu very well as I am a former employee. 🙃 hush.
And please everyone out there, be very diligent about your purchases. Prada, like other luxury houses, is not what you think it is.
What I do know though for a FACT is Prada sources their hardware and leather from Italian factories, which means the majority of the bag is Italian. However, if not, all luxury brands do this, actually every single brand that makes something does this. The guacamole I got made in LA came from avocados from Mexico. It is IMPOSSIBLE for Italy as a country to have the infrastructure for silk, hardware, etc, etc.
Learn the difference between made in X country vs made in Italy from imported materials.
Your comment was clearly implying Prada is manufacturing their things in Southeast Asia which is wrong and duplicitous on your part.
Most of Prada hardware is NOT made in Italy. I don’t know what you are being fed but that is widely incorrect.
Maybe I am weird but to me the belt/buckle is so gimmicky that it distracts from what would be a great basic suede tote…
5k!! OMG lol. No, nope, nah, no way! I’d maybe spend that right now on Bottega for a huge bag, or Hermes, or vintage Chanel. Nothing else. In fact, I’ve gone right off most designer bags. My last three bags have been contemporary and i bought a vintage exotic – a croc. They’re all amazing and I have to say the quality on my contemporary bags is just as good as on my designer bags. The vintage croc is amazing and the quality is mindblowing. Not sure if I’ll buy new designer anymore.
it’s literally bag with belt, almost like DIY bag made from old jeans or something
Prada makes the worst quality bags among the top luxury brands (maybe Dior comes close) and this bag us gimmicky af.
All bags are simple, this bag is simple but really elegant! I love the suede version so much
This won’t join my bag family as it’s a hand/arm carry bag. Also, 5K? Where is that laughing hysterically emoji?
I’ve owned one suede bag and it got pitiful looking after a year. Never again.
But in a positive vein, I find myself loving caramel colored bags.
I don’t know why it isn’t shown in the pictures, but all of the sizes have a long, removable shoulder strap. You can see it in the street photo of Chloe Sevigny.
Absurd price for a «meh» almost ugly bag!
I would not have carried this bag even if it was given to me.
Wayyyy to similar to The Row Marguax!
Wait until you see their iteration of the Margaux! The resemblance in uncanny, unfortunately.
Prada’s quality is so poor that I would rather buy a tote with no brand. That’s not worth my money at all.
Too simple looking for a $5K bag. Lacks the style and quality of the Galleria
Frankly… nothin special ‘bout the design…if not branded bag, just like u can find in a street bundle shop … big No for me
When a post is done in collaboration with a brand, do they pay attention to the feedback?Because clearly this new Prada bag is not a hit with the judges — aka the buyers who would actually be paying to acquire the bag.
It’s a fashionable bag! I saw it in store and the leather was so nice!
I don’t hate it but not paying over 5k for it either. If someone gave it to me sure, otherwise I will spend my money elsewhere.
LOVE the Buckle Bag! Wish I were wealthy enough to buy one 🙁
This post is an ad for a Prada bag that costs way too much for what it actually is. It’s a basic tote with a zara belt wrapped around it. Add a stamp that says Prada and voilà, you can price it at 5K. No thank you!
This bag fits in a weird figurative space for me with the belt detail. The belt makes it stand out but it’s not enough to make the design exciting. On the other hand, the belt detail is also one I think I would get tired of. The price is too for the two things it comes close to being— too high for a basic and too high for a trendy bag that will be used for a short time.
