The Sculptural, Draped Polène Neuf

There's another new Polène bag in town, and this bag delights

Polene Numero Neuf Green

The once little-known brand has hit a cult status amongst handbag aficionados and the expansion of bag offerings for Parisian-based Polène continues. If you don’t know Polène, you’re going to want to. In 2018, I called this a brand to watch, and since that time, Polène has enjoyed a massive surge of popularity.

There are many reasons, one being the designs themselves, but the other main factor is that for the quality of the product and the price, you are getting truly impeccably made bags. The logo, if it is even incorporated, is small and each style is quite organic, many times with different beautiful drapes and pleating techniques. The textured leathers used are incredibly supple while remaining highly durable, and the bags are handcrafted.

Introducing the Numéro Neuf

This is the Polène Numéro Neuf (number nine), which is a unique take for the brand. You’ll first notice the draping that comes together to form this bag, from the top handle to the body of the bag. Next, you’ll find the attention to detail which can be seen by the meticulous stitches in the bag, forming a nice aesthetic touch (especially where the piece of leather meets on the front center of the bag).

Polene Numero Neuf Top Stiching

This bag is quite feminine and sculptural, while still being practical. The full-grain calfskin doesn’t scratch easily which is always a bonus for me. The interior is lined in 100% tonal cotton and though the leather is substantial in feel, it does not add a lot of heft to the bag itself.

I absolutely love the top handle of the bag, it’s a true art piece when you examine it closely. The handle is actually crafted seamlessly from the main leather panels and its interesting form is created by pleating and stitching of the leather.

The Details That Make the Bag

You’ll find a removable strap, though by now you know I am always team strap for making my bag carrying far easier. The bag closes with a nifty magnetic flap and there is an inner zipped pocket. If you fancy logo-free bags, this bag will receive another check mark, as the Numéro Neuf only has its name on the interior.

I have very few complaints about this bag. I am such a big Polène fan girl and have been so delighted to see a brand with a far more accessible price point that still offers an elevated bag. One thing to note is that because of the way the bag’s draped form and its relatively wide handle, getting to the interior might take a little more time or searching when you open the bag.

Still, this bag is such a standout in design and aesthetic, I really love to see the bag world bring us something different. You can purchase the Numéro Neuf for $420 via Polène in 9 colors.

The Smaller Mini and Micro Sizes

If you love the itsy-bitsy micro bag trend, Polène also offers this same bag in the tiny micro size. There isn’t much functionality to it, but that doesn’t stop me from being oddly delighted by the bag itself.

It is mastery in form, in that creating a bag in such a tiny shape is quite the feat. While the Micro can fit a mint, a key, and a card, I find the Mini size far more usable while still giving you that compact size that many adore. The Mini Numéro Neuf also comes with a removable and adjustable shoulder strap.

Numéro Neuf vs. Mini vs. Micro Size Comparison

The full-sized Numéro Neuf measures 19 X 32 X 16 cm (7.5″ x 12.5″ x 6.3″), the Mini measures 14 x 23,5 x 13,5 cm (5.5″ x 9.25″ x 5.3″), and the Micro measures a tiny 7,5 x 13 x 7cm (3″ x 5.1″ x 2.7″). See a top-down comparison photo below:

Have you ever bought any of their bags? If you did you would know that the quality and craftsmanship is incredible! As far as the price? It can’t be beat! These bags are some of the best on the market. Do your research before calling the brand “useless, junk and crap”.

Maryanne

Yes and I’m trying to exchange. Impossible

Useless brand? lol what a bizarre comment. Polene is actually quite well known and very popular with handbag aficionados. I have literally owned hundreds of premier designer bags (incl chanel, lv, gucci, ysl, prada etc), and Polene’s construction is right up there with the best (but at a fraction of the price). I own the neuf in blush and it’s absolutely gorgeous.

I see at least 4 of them every day in Paris. PurseForum is a bit late on the Polène trend, but it is a REAL thing here, in France. We love this brand !

Kateholli

What’s wrong with you?

There are plenty of enthusiastic owners over on TPF, the Polène master thread has over 1 million views:

I will say that the leather and construction quality are exceptional for the price point.

Seagreen20

I carry mine in real life. I have two Neufs & a Huit. Love the quality & the unique designs.

Elena

This is a really nice alternative to pricier brands for those of us who enjoy elegant and minimalist aesthetics.

Ugly bag

Tana

Hello! I carry it in real life lol. Not this one but Numéro Un and Numéro Sept Haha!

I enjoy seeing all the Polène models, but I still like the original Numero Un best. (I have two of those — navy blue and trio vert — plus a Numero Deux in the black moc crock and a Numero Six in terre de Sienne). And as was posted above, I have seen their bags many times in Paris, esp the black Numero Un full size.

preppie

I have several of their bags, including the Neuf, and I wear them alongside my Chanel and Hermes. They are a great contemporary brand.

Thank you so much for this review and of course the eye candy! I love the green color although it’s now sold out. Your photo’s look amazing. I’ve had so many different designer bags over the years and I’m totally obsessed with my Neuf. I also recently bought a thicker cross body strap for it because the one that comes with it is a bit thin for it’s size and I love it even more now. I actually bought a smaller wallet too so it’s easier to get in and out of the bag. My other wallet was a full sized WOC (from RM) but even though I could get it inside, it was trickier. It’s a breeze now with my smaller wallet. It’s totally worth it!!!

Simbadog8

I want my bags to be really functional and struggling with my wallet would be a problem for me.

I adore my two Neuf Minis. I have it in taupe and camel. The construction is impeccable and the shape is so unique! It’s a little difficult to get in and out of, but I use my LV Recto Verso and that works like a charm. I have also preordered the Tonca in Cognac. I can’t wait!! So tempted to order the full size Neuf just to look at its beautiful shape. I’m impressed with the brand and the quality in an industry that continues to disappoint with quality control, not to mention ridiculous price increases.

Sorry you were attacked for having a valid opinion. It’s sad they need to do that to justify their feelings

Dave (@daveloeweyou)

I am a real Loewe fan for his quality and designs. But I have an eye to this brand for his designs and quality.

Ree

They got inspiration for it from a dimsum.

I love the seafoam green color!

FashionableLena

I’ve always wanted to try one of these bags. This one is cute, but I agree about the handle. That would drive me nuts.

sunny

beautiful bag!
next on my list!

Just bought the Blush version, I’m excited!

Hi, I’ve never really had an expensive bag before as I am a student. But for my 25th birthday I wanted to buy myself a Jacquemus le Grand Bambino (brown) until I have come across polène numéro neuf mini. As you guys are clearly well-versed, please suggest me on which one I should go for and if it’s the polène neuf mini help me in picking the color?

Antonia

I think I would go for the classic black for your first Polene!! 🙂

lalarey

Does the large one work as a shoulder bag? I would primarily carry it in the crook of my arm, but would like the option. I cant tell from the model pics on their website. I have been on the fence about this one for a while but there’s no way to try before buying in the US

CC149

You can’t put a laptop in there, but it can hold basically everything else. I have taken this to the gym, to grocery stopping, etc. It can hold water bottles. It can hold a sweater. It can probably be your lunchbox if you want.

CC149

The full size Neuf impresses me the most with usability/capacity is when I’m traveling. I had to fly and travel a few times and the amount of stuff I can put in there is amazing.

lalarey

thanks! What i mean by my question is, is it likely that I will be able to fit my whole arm under that strap, to wear it so it rests on my shoulder? I am a size four, so I don’t have skinny model arms but neither are they large.

Antonia

NO, this bag wasn’t really designed for that look….def not a shoulder bag.

Donna

Super cute!

Irene

The Brand name is actually featured on the exterior of the bag. Not at the bottom front, but on the side bottom. Written in gold.

Jennifer J

Hi! I really want the mini but am hesitant to order a $450 CAD bag not knowing if my phone would fit.

Do you think a 6 3/4″ long phone would make it throug the tiny opening of the mini?
