Loewe Collaborates With Howl’s Moving Castle on a Special Capsule Collection

Classic pieces are given an animated twist and we're giving you an official first look

Much like the world of handbags for handbag collectors, the fantasy world is a magical, magnificent escape for film lovers. Loewe celebrates the magical world of animated film in a new capsule collection designed in collaboration with the Japanese animated film Howl’s Moving Castle. This collection is not the first time Loewe and creative director Jonathan Anderson have partnered with Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli. Anderson previously launched two collections depicting characters from the film Spirited Away.

Howl’s Moving Castle is one of the most commercially successful Japanese films in history, and it also happens to be a favorite of Jonathan Anderson’s. A heartfelt, fulfilling film full of fantasy with a sense of realism, Anderson expressed how it offers “a commentary on the moment and an alternative to it,” which feels poignant to the world we live in now. It tells a story of loyalty and compassion set against a backdrop of a fictional kingdom at war.

Fan-Favorites Given a Twist of Fantasy

This collection pushes the boundaries of creativity with bold, intricate pieces that pay homage to the innovation within Howl’s Moving Castle. The film blends hand-drawn and digital animation, and the collection pieces are meant to literally bring the film to life. The collection allows its wearer to identify with the film; in Anderson’s words, they are “almost like handcrafted virtual reality in wearable form.”

Loewe’s most beloved silhouettes feature the film’s key characters—Sophie, Howl, fire demon Calcifer, Turnip Head, and more. The characters animate clothing and accessories throughout the collection; some of the most important pieces are the bags. House staples like the Puzzle, Flamenco, Hammock, Amazona, Bracelet Pouch, and new House icon, the Luna, showcase scenes from the film, standing out in bold colors like orange, blue and red.

Showcased below in new images created with Juergen Teller, the LOEWE x Howl’s Moving Castle collection launches in select stores worldwide on February 2nd and in pop-ups worldwide. Sign up for early access now via Loewe.com.

The message is one of uplifting connection. Crafting fantasies to create alternative realities and see the world in a different way.’ -Jonathan Anderson

Who in the world is buying this nonsense? Are high end handbags companies running out of ideas? This is totally garbage

Different strokes for different folks. This collection is for fun and will appeal to people who want something more limited edition and quirky. I love that Loewe doesn’t just pigeon hole itself with the same boring ideas all the time.

Loewe is HUGE here in Japan. I guarantee this will sell well here, like the last Ghibli collaboration did. (I personally would never buy anime stuff. I have no interest in anime.)

It seems Loewe knows their market. I’ve noticed a lot of corporate jobs with Loewe opening in Japan in the last six months as well.

While I’m not the biggest fan of the handbags in this collection (particularly the ones where they just painted a scene from the movie), I absolutely LOVE the first look with the black feathered top…what a gorgeous homage to Howl’s bird form! I wish these collaborations had more pieces like this where the inspiration is clear but not too literal. The handbag in that look is also my favorite one from the collection too, the silhouette of the Flamenco bag complements the shape of Calcifer’s flames perfectly.

I love Studio Ghibli but you are crapping all over people who cant afford this, just disgusting!

I love Disney but I don’t hate Gucci or Givenchy for their collaborations.
By the other hand, this isn’t a blog for thrifty people.

This isn’t a blog for employees of Loewe.. 😉
The whole collection will success in Japan and point. Probably Loewe had declining sales in Japan and will put the Japanese on course.

Why are you so rude and hater??? 🤷🏻‍♂️

B.irkin

I don´t hate anybody. I am only so annoyed of people who want to plant things on me. Who pretend to be friend and are only interested in making profit on my costs.Probably I am totally wrong, then I am deeply sorry. But mostly I have a clear sense of those hidden things going on..

I accept your apologies, as they once accepted them when I made a mistake with my forms. I am only a fan of the brand that I have known for generations in my family and it is a Spanish luxury brand. And here I’m not going to say where I work but you would be surprised.

Yesterday the PRE sale, most of the garments, bags and accessories are already over. Not only in Japan, as expected, also in Europe (with a pop up store in Selfridges) and in the USA.
Oh and Loewe on the Lyst index of the hottest brands, has gone from 14th to 7th place. The biggest rise in this quarter.
