This Khaite Bag Is One Ladylike Dreams Are Made Of

The Cate Bag is here to stay...

Khaite Cate Bag

The structured, chic frame bag is one of the most feminine shapes in the handbag world. It’s also one of those silhouettes that can elevate your entire look in an instant.

Retaining its shape thanks to its structured body, the ladylike frame bag never looks messy. It’s a bag that does not necessarily suit everyone’s style or day-to-day life, but it’s a shape we all need in our closets.

A bag that says, “I’ve got it all together, regardless of if that actually is the case.

The Cate by Khaite

Founded by designer Catherine Holstein in 2016, Khaite first launched handbags in 2019 under the name Khaite Luggage. The line was small at first, beginning with a few simple silhouettes, including Katie Holmes’ favorite Amelia Tote and a range of frame bags that became cult favorites.

We immediately clocked Khaite as a brand to watch, and sure enough, we were right. Now, six years after Khaite’s inaugural handbag collection took the fashion world by storm, the brand’s reach is bigger than ever, and its handbag collection is expansive.

Returning to its delicate, feminine roots and clean aesthetic, Khaite introduced the Cate bag for Fall 2024, and in all of its structured, ladylike glory, it’s a bag we keep returning to.

The Details

The Cate Bag is simple but oh-so-chic, defined by its clean lines and boxy shape. Its distinct gold kiss-lock is plated in 18-karat gold, standing out on the otherwise hardware-free bag. Its framing is hidden from the outside, covered in leather, and revealed only when the bag is open, allowing the bag to ooze a certain softness thanks to its leather, even though its shape is sturdy.

The dimensions are 5.5″ H x 11.8″ W x 6.5″ D, offering ample room inside while still feeling small enough to wear for nights out. Expanding for the spring season, the Cate bag is offered in smooth leather and exotics like python and alligator.

I love the design and the details, but it is too expensive for what it is. Especially in the faux snakeskin (that looks sub-par IMHO)
