New Iterations of Gucci Staples Are Here

One colorway reimagines the House's monogram and the other mirrors House's origins.

Gucci Black Denim Collection

The way Gucci reinvents and reinvigorates beloved designs is ever-changing, and the latest rendition pairs black and ivory GG denim jacquard on cornerstone bags to offer sleek and wearable new options. A black bag is one of the most used bags in most of our collections, and Gucci updated this with a modern twist, offering the easy-to-wear color in GG jacquard denim which reimagines the House’s monogram.

Alessandro Michele, Creative Director of Gucci, works with prints, materials, and colors to bring plenty of modern and unique options to each collection. The diversity of Michele’s designs is meant to be as diverse as the wearer, allowing each person to personalize their outfits with flair and fun to make their fashion choices personal.

The Bags of Gucci Black Denim

Three of the most iconic shapes, including the Gucci Jackie, Gucci Horsebit 1955, and Gucci Dionysus, are offered in the new black denim as part of the Gucci Aria collection. Each showcases the black and ivory GG denim jacquard atop the designs with black leather trim. The end result combines the contemporary with the classic as new expressions of the House’s signature handbags from the Gucci Beloved lines.

The Gucci 1955 Horsebit, a personal favorite in my collection, is reimagined with denim and shiny gold-toned hardware, which can be found on the Horsebit detail on the front. The Horsebit is integral to the House’s past and present and is linked to Gucci’s rich history and the idea that a piece should be timeless. The interior of this bag is lined with cotton linen, and you’ll find half Horsebit detail on each side of the bag. The leather shoulder strap is adjustable, from 9.8″ to 17.7″, and there’s a flap closure, revealing the interior with three gussets to allow expansion and one zipper, and one open pocket. Dimensions are 9.8″W x 7″H x 3.1″D.

Another archival revival from the brand, the Gucci Jackie, is also updated with this new take on the GG monogram. An additional detachable shoulder strap allows for new ways to wear, including carrying by the top handle, over the shoulder, or crossbody, and gives a contemporary feel to the bag. The shoulder strap features black and orange Web, a standout color pairing, and there’s the signature piston closure. You’ll find one open pocket and one zipper pocket on the inside. Dimensions are 11″W x 7.5″H x 1.8″D.

Rounding out the trio of new black denim GG monogram bags is the coveted Gucci Dionysus Bag. House heritage and history continue to shine with the textured tiger head spur, the defining feature of the Dionysus, and an integral part of the House’s past and present DNA. There’s a black leather trim and a cotton-linen lining as with the other designs. You’ll find a small but handy pocket under the flap, and the sliding chain shoulder strap allows for top handle or over-the-shoulder wear. Dimensions are 10″W x 5.5″H x 3″D.

A Colorway Mirroring the GG Supreme Historic Origins

If you’re interested in something a little lighter (in color, but in this tote’s case, also in weight), Gucci has these new color variations as well. This light and usable Gucci Ophidia GG Tote is an easy daily carry, works over the shoulder or carried by hand, and features GG Supreme canvas in a blue and beige colorway that mirrors historic House origins and was shown as part of the Gucci Love Parade. Dimensions are 15″W x 11″H x 5.5″D.

There are other bags in the same color family, including the Gucci Dionysus (same as what we shared above but in a different colorway). The timeless mix of blue and beige pays homage to Gucci’s history, and the canvas remains a hallmark of the House. The blue leather trim is a deep blue hue, one that you have to look at in the right light to see the color is blue, not black, and there are the rest of the elements that make up the Dionysus.

While each of the Gucci black denim designs and this blue and beige colorway can be worn more casually (think your jeans and t-shirt look), the ability to pair each with a romantically intricate outfit is precisely what makes Gucci under Alessandro Michele speak to everyone. Maximalism to minimalism, how you style one of these bags is up to you, and each would quickly become a staple in your collection.
