Since his appointment at Givenchy, Matthew Williams has been unafraid to push boundaries while implementing change at the French fashion House. In the early days of his tenure, it was clear that William’s background in streetwear would influence his work at Givenchy, and his first collections oozed a certain edge not seen at the House before.
While Givenchy’s core DNA remained, and Williams got his start by redefining House staples, it was clear from the beginning that Matthew Williams’ Givenchy was different. Williams continues to champion core silhouettes while introducing new ones, and today we’re here to talk about the latter.
A Sophisticated Edge
First seen at the brand’s Spring 2023 presentation, Givenchy’s newest It-bag, the Voyou just made its debut. The newest addition to the House bag is a highly commercial shoulder bag that appeared in multiple sizes and colors on the runway. Its shape is relatively simple, characterized by smooshy leather and moto-style leather buckles.
The Voyou, which translates to “bad boy” in French, is a classic representation of playful, Parisian edge and is a quintessential representation of Matthew Williams’ Givenchy. It’s designed with the chic woman in mind, one whose style is refined but with a blasé attitude.
Offered in a few sizes, there are mini, medium, and large, the Voyou is easy to wear and style. It can be thrown over the shoulder, worn cross-body, or toted as a top handle. Its strap is adjustable, and while the mini has a top zip with one interior pocket, both the medium and the large are open-topped and contain an interior zipped pocket. Prices range from $1,500 for the mini to $2,500 for the large.
