Givenchy Gave Us a Better Look at Its Big New Bag on Its Fall 2016 Runway

Givenchy very rarely uses handbags on its runways, but I’m glad I checked in on its Fall 2016 runway show just in case. The brand featured just one new bag style in several different crocodile colors, and if Riccardo Tisci is willing to put it front and center on one of Givenchy’s biggest days of the year, you can be that you’re about to see this bag everywhere.

The bag is a belted tote that first popped up in Givenchy’s Pre-Fall 2016 lookbook in January, where it was featured in a larger size more appropriate for a day bag. On the Fall 2016 runway, it took on a smaller profile, complete with crossbody shoulder strap. This version appears to be about the same size as the Céline Nano Luggage Tote, which is a perfect weekend bag.

Because Givenchy almost always avoids arming models with its bags, the inclusion of this one is important. The super-popular Antigona, Pandora and Nightingale have all been on the market and in front of consumers for years, so it makes sense that Givenchy is looking for a new model to join their ranks and offer shoppers some novelty. With this bag’s simple, distinct lines and clear usability, I wouldn’t be surprised if this bag turned out to be a smart bet.
