Don’t get me wrong – like any member of the fashion industry, I love black and own a great deal of it. But when I think of Project Runway favorite Christian Siriano, somber darkness isn’t necessarily what comes to mind or what I expected to see in his Fall 2011 collection. But more than anything, black is what I found.

Siriano’s signature ruffles and frills were still there, but in a somewhat more somber aesthetic mixed with some sharp tailoring and and a few splashes of mauve and olive toward the middle and end of the presentation. The drama and overabundance of some of Siriano’s previous collections had been noticeably tempered, perhaps with more of an eye toward retail sales. Several gorgeously detailed pieces remained, though, and I’m sure they’d be a marvel up close. Even when cloaked in black, Siriano doesn’t lose his eye for exquisite details.

I think he was the most talented person to be on project runway, but I honestly don’t care for most of this collection. Half of it is frumpy, IMO. I know this is going to sound silly, but I can’t help look at his collection as if I’m watching an ep of project runway, and I find myself hearing Michael Kors’ voice in my head (“That skirt is doing NOTHING for her body!”).

Agreed! I love the more streamlined pieces, but most of it has way to much volume and it just looks like a big fluffy sack!

But the little back dress is gorgeous!

    He’s overrated in my opinion.

Sleek and subdued, and will retail nicely. Love #1 (fabulous, flattering lines for any figure), #5, #8 and #12.

Saw the live stream & the model in the short mauve dress fell so hard. OMG. Poor girl. Actually, a few of the models were stumbling. Maybe it’s the platforms.

But yea, I’m kind of disappointed with this collection. It’s subdued. I still love Christian. I was just expecting more POW!

I wonder if he used Payless shoes.
Anyway, Christian said on FB that his collection was going to be somber with little splashes of color. It looks that way. And, he lived up to his word.
I like the collection. Numbers 4, 8, 11, and 15 were my favorites. I am most certain that we will see one or more of these on the red carpet.
Did anyone see the other PR alum-Irina?

gorgeous – very lacroix. im not surprised by the color scheme (or lack thereof) based on his past work and the fact that victoria beckham was his muse in the past. i think hes super talented!

#9 took my breath away! Some of the dresses could be worn to Oscar. Love this collection!!

  • amy

i love 11 and 12. i can see 11 as a dress someone would wear for the oscars!

There’s a you tube video up of Irina’s collection. OMG. I loved everything. She rocked.

    Fierce!! I love the collection!

  • Stylista

Wow, I love this collection! I haven’t really been following his past collections, so I can’t make any intelligent comparisons, but this look fantastic to me! Real fashion!

I LOVE IT. I don’t like the blonde model he used for his clothes. I feel he should’ve stuck to all dark hair colored models. Other than that, he’s always so creative, which is what I love about him.

  • 19yearslater

Ehm, looks like he never quite got over the PR Challenge aesthetic. Not loving these clothes.

#9 is my fav – there is something about it that just feels so effortless.
