It feels as though whenever I write about a new Bottega Veneta collection, I talk about how steady the brand is. And that's absolutely true; Tomas Maier has been at Bottega's helm since 2001, and in that time he's put together an aesthetic universe of quiet elegance that manages to be enormously luxurious while still acknowledging that its customers have regular lives that generally require them to go to the office instead of wiling away their days on a yacht or at a charity luncheon. In its Spring 2018 collection, Bottega stays true to that form, but the brand also does something I wasn't totally expecting: it has a lot of fun.
In recent seasons, Bottega has largely stuck to neutrals and muted tones, and while spring doesn't exactly edge into brights, it does include some vivid shades of green, purple and blue, as well as jewel-embellished day bags and checkerboard intrecciato leather that feels a little risky while still staying decidedly within the Bottega universe. Personalized and monogrammed bags also play a big role in this collection, in both painted and leather-appliqued form. There was also plenty of the classics, though, so this BV collection is likely to gain wide appreciation among shoppers. Check out all the bags from the collection below.
