On Saturday evening in Mexico City, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Dior debuted a look at Cruise 2024. Leading up to the show, a series of images were captured both backstage and during the fitting process, giving us a behind-the-scenes look at special bags from the collection, which feature intricate details in true Dior fashion.
An Ode to Tradition
Showcased in Mexico City, the Cruise 2024 collection pays homage to the tradition and craft of different cultures, with Maria Grazia Chiuri once again partnering with local artisans. Mexico City served as the perfect source of inspiration for Maria Grazia Chiuri, who designed the collection with the influences of Mexican painter Frida Kahlo strongly on her mind. Dior worked alongside various indigenous communities of Mexico to create this collection, and the pieces, as a whole, are a beautiful tribute to the country’s artisanal heritage, recognizing the technique and craft of the talented women and men who are part of them.
The Butterfly Effect
The collection’s roots in nature combine Dior’s history with vivid depictions of Mexican flora and fauna. The butterfly, with is said to be a metaphor for metamorphosis and transcendence, takes center stay both on bags and beyond. Intricate depictions of the butterfly appear both literally and within embroidered prints. On the runway, we saw stunning new versions of the Saddle Bag and the Lady Dior, which are fitted with laser-cut iterations of the winged insect. At the same time, the Dior Book Tote is shown in stunning new floral embroideries featuring the butterfly as well. Discover more below.
