Back in December, Chanel presented its always ornate Metiers d’Art 2022 collection. The bags of Metiers d’Art are always highly anticipated, as they are some of the brand’s most beautiful bags, intended to showcase Chanel artisans’ incredible skill and craftsmanship. The bags dazzle, and they certainly wow, but this season, as in most seasons post-Karl Lagerfeld, they are mostly wearable, albeit adorned.
The pieces are rich in detail, showcasing the iconic artisanal heritage of the Chanel brand. Underlining a modern and very metropolitan elegance, the collection celebrates the brand’s savoir-faire, and Virginie Viard worked hand in hand with artisans to create this collection. Bags combine color and texture. Chanel Flaps are reworked with exquisite sequin detailing and metallic mesh, while the brand’s less classic shapes, like the beloved Vanity Bag, are dressed in shearling and more.
