Chanel’s Metiers d’Art 2022 Bags Are Here and These Are Our Favorites

The collection just launched on Chanel.com and we've got a look at its hits!

Chanel Metiers D'Art 2022 Bags

Back in December, Chanel presented its always ornate Metiers d’Art 2022 collection. The bags of Metiers d’Art are always highly anticipated, as they are some of the brand’s most beautiful bags, intended to showcase Chanel artisans’ incredible skill and craftsmanship. The bags dazzle, and they certainly wow, but this season, as in most seasons post-Karl Lagerfeld, they are mostly wearable, albeit adorned.

The pieces are rich in detail, showcasing the iconic artisanal heritage of the Chanel brand. Underlining a modern and very metropolitan elegance, the collection celebrates the brand’s savoir-faire, and Virginie Viard worked hand in hand with artisans to create this collection. Bags combine color and texture. Chanel Flaps are reworked with exquisite sequin detailing and metallic mesh, while the brand’s less classic shapes, like the beloved Vanity Bag, are dressed in shearling and more. I love all of these and the price point is outstanding and very reasonable!

Alisa

You need to get inside reality- these prices are too high for those bags. You don’t need to literally PAY them to advertise for the brand and be their fool. Think about it- they are living in castles in Europe and you are funding them while you PAY THEM to advertise for them so they get richer while you get poorer. They are not paying you. A handbag doesn’t define your worth. That’s the deception. Have some sense and limits. As for Chanel, a sure way to destroy a brand is to degrade design and alienate new clientele. Valentino is doing this with their shoes now going to 1000.00 a pair. Insane.

Chanel lover

You need to chill and recognize satire when you see it. Take your own advice…have some sense! 😂

suziez

this is a designer purse forum where we can share the love of bags not a lecure hall.

Serena

You got to love “price available upon request”. Yikes!

Jerri R

That 2.55 is so not worth that price. Add a little and get an Hermes, for God’s sake.

Gia

Hermes is soooo boring. I have several Birkins and they are a bore. While my Chanel bags are fashion and cool. Hermes isn’t better it’s just a different house. It’s a very old rich lady vibe.

Olivia Penzey

$9000+ for PATENT! What on earth? And why is that dingy-looking white fabric bag at the end only $300 less than the full-leather 19 maxi above it?

Donna Bowers

Nope. Not one thing looks worthwhile.

Eliza

The new shape of the boy bag reminds me of Chloe Marcie Nano.

Chaussures74

Definitely looks like the Chloe Marcie, which I can buy, new, from certain vendors for $800. These prices are astronomical.

Hera

I was thinking the Chloe nile bag 😛 The trim and the buttons on the strap are identical. This is too much, they should add more unique features, not just their Logo… even if it is a dupe.
Same with that pearl bag, which was originally designed by susanna chow… it looks like they just took the design and put a double c on it. They didn’t even change the colours! They should do a collab if they want to use other brands styles, especially if they are smaller.

Valerie

It’s a pretty traditional shape.

Twocents

I read today that the owners made $5 billion in pure profit. I guess the intense price rises have paid off. At least my money is safe because the current designs are so uninspiring especially the 22 bag. I can imagine at least 22 ways to better make a hobo. At this point the only things at Chanel that seem like they are worth buying are their shoes, glasses and maybe perfume.

Ash

Well said👏👏 The shoes, glasses and perfumes are the only things worth it. Chanel is trying too hard to become Hermes!!

Brio

Chanel could sell TP with their logo on it at 500.00 a roll, and people would put their names on a wait list!

Twocents

I agree, my husband who is generally an enabler or my purse-buying, says that people would buy poop if it had CC on it. It makes me laugh but there is some truth to this. I have been turned off by the recent price rises so I’d rather spend my money elsewhere – currently preferring high quality clothes with a no obvious branding in bags.

Former Chanel Lover

These prices are eye watering. LOL

Lisa

I am finding myself moving far, far away from luxury bags. Of course, I already have my fair share of them, but will not be purchasing any more. After purchasing both a defective LV and Chanel in the past couple of months…I am done. Tory Burch, See by Chloe, Coach and other mid-level brands will get my money, not these greedy idiots!!

Carolyn Cannoy

Agree, LV has been really declining in quality. I haven’t had any issues with my Gucci’s…

Jen

A bit off topic with the Chanel article but yasss I agree with LV quality. Recently tried their multi pochette and they are so light , i could not differentiate it with a mere paper bag 😓 look so fragile for such pricepoint. Never tried it before as they always sold out but the single pochette is not that light

Twocents

I agree, I also like Chloe and occasionally Valentino as both can be purchased on sale for a decent amount. I do catch myself thinking, with so many bags already how much can I enjoy a new one (I’m not a collector and don’t see them as an investment). I have a large amount of gift vouchers I’ve collected over the past two years for a major department store so thinking of one more purchase before I close the wallet, maybe a Fendi baguette or a Dior book tote in a non oblique print for a statement. The recession is looking inevitable at this point.

Lisa

OOOhhhh I agree, one last bag would be nice. Whatever you do, please think about the book tote before purchasing. That purchase is my BIGGEST regret. I wish I never got sucked into the hype. It’s so bulky and impractical. Of course, I don’t want to sound bossy…maybe you are thinking of a smaller one to use as a handbag? Whatever you get will be so wonderful since you are really saving and thinking about it! I do not collect bags anymore either. I had over 100 LV bags at one point and sold over 80 of them. No room and what a waste of $$$. I would never have the time to even wear them all. Who was I kidding?!? That was almost 20 years ago. A different time for sure. Our country is going to “pot” so no more frivolous spending on material items that mean nothing when it comes down to it. Family, children, friends and sentimental items are the real luxuries in life 🙂

Baglover

I bought the large Dior book tote because it was beautiful. I took it out, once, but it was cumbersome. I tried to put it over my shoulder and the drop wasn’t long enough. The tote was simply too big for me. I sold it and was lucky enough to recoup my money.

Twocents

Ohh thank you for that mini review, that’s what keeps me hesitating, it seems a bit unportable and given it’s fabric I’m not sure it will wear well. They just look like pieces of wearable art!

Lisa

It is beautiful and I bought the matching sandals. The bag is just so bulky and impractical. I decided to use as a beach bag because I have not taken it out in over a year and we are going on a bougie vacation, LOL! I’m sure by the time I get back from using it, there will be issues with the inside showing that yellow glue line. Who knows, I just need to use it!! Enjoy whatever you decide on. As long as it makes your heart sing, that is all that matters 😉

Chaussures74

I’ve been feeling the same way! My ONE exception is, I really would like to have a Boy bag (already have 3 other Chanel bags, which is enough for that brand). I’m only looking at pre-owned, and I’ve seen some good ones for around $3K. Otherwise, I can no longer justify spending that kind of money on bags with such poor quality. If I do decide, in the future, it’ll be vintage, high-end bags (reasonably priced, of course). Like Christy, I’ll always come to PB to see the new bags. 🙂

Lisa

Completely agree!! I LOVE the eye candy, I can’t help it!! I will also invest in a vintage handbag here and there. I just purchased a vintage Gucci 1970 Suede Blondie bag in February and received it back from the Leather Spa. I paid $300 from an estate sale and another 350 to bring back to life. It looks like new and I had no idea that they would be re-releasing that bag. SCORE!!!

Kristy

Totally agree. I love coming here to look at the newest bags and see what celebs are carrying (because I’m nosy), but I am pretty done with designer bags. The quality control issues just aren’t worth it anymore. Coach has some great bags right now, along with TB, Kate Spade. Also, not going to lie: I’ve found some gorgeous “inspired” bags (not counterfeit or branded) on Amazon lately. With the costs of everything rising, especially necessities, I just can’t justify it anymore. We make a comfortable living, but the economy is making me hella nervous right now.

Lisa

I agree. I don’t mind spending thousands, if the item is worth it. Honestly, the only bag I have that has not compromised quality is my Birkin. I have a friend who just got one (finally) and it looks just as well made as mine (which is about 10 years old). The rest of these so called high end brands are cutting corners. I don’t need to wear a label to feel confident or to show people what I have; and I certainly don’t want to be showing off poor quality. The more that these luxury brands get away with, the more they will cut corners and raise prices. My extra $$$ is going straight into my future (retirement). You are definitely on the right path as well. They are fun to look at though!!!

Tim

Looks like something I can find from my grandma’s closet. 👎

JulieG

I would love to raid your grandma’s closet!!!

Sandy

Prices are going up, up, up! I am glad that I purchased my Jumbo Classic Double flap a few years ago! The mini Messenger bag is so good, I need it! (Depending on how mini, needs to hold my basics or it is a no go).

Olivia Penzey

Agreed on the mini messenger. It’s adorable.

Alisa

Complete insanity that Chanel is doing this to their prices. Not only are the styles increasingly ugly but they are preying on customers. No conscience. Lagerfeld turning in his grave on design alone. I have bought Chanel for years but this is insanity.

Aspen

The boy bag wasn’t introduced 20 years ago though?

Chaussures74

Right, I thought it was 10 years (2012).

Vero84

Every time I read these comments everyone says the same thing, that the bags are overpriced. Which there is no denying it, they are extremely overpriced, but then why are the boutiques always sold out of items, and lines to get into the store. People keep on buying no matter how much the prices are and that is the real problem.

Gina

Why is that a “problem”? If people love the product and are willing to spend money to get it, it just means that Chanel makes smart business decisions.

Susan

Gorgeous bags!! I feel sorry for the bitter people who love to denigrate Chanel every time there is a blog post about them… I think their bags are beautiful and apparently so do their many customers!

Molly Schaefer

hey very nice

Molly Schaefer

d to literally PAY them to advertise for the brand and be their fool. Think about it- they are living in c

The Haute Hedonist

The New shape of the Chanel Flap Bag with Top handle will probably end up my regular everyday purse, I really just need to get my hands on that top Handle to see what its like. But having that strap is a plus and will justify the price ! And that burgundy wine colored Chanel 22 can have its way with ME !!!!!

Helena

Absolutely beautiful collection. Métiers d’art always delivers. I’m too poor for buying only Chanel… but if I could I would!

Bhumika

i really love all of these and the best thing is the prices are very reasonable.

Gia

Love the Chanel 22 small size. When u see it in person and try it on. That’s when u know it’s such a chic bag.
