Celebrities are going minimal with the new Valentino My Rockstud Bag. The use of the word “Rockstud” in the name is a bit of a misnomer, because unlike everything else Rockstudded, this bag (rather surprisingly) has precious few actual studs. I could find only five on close examination of the bag in product photos, all attached to its gold hardware.
The Rockstud placement is extremely subtle, so, silver lining: if you’ve been put off by the Rockstud craze of recent years, Valentino might have finally made a bag with you in mind. If not, there are also some lovely designs from other companies on celebrity arms below.
Alessandra Ambrosio
Hermès Birkin
First up, here’s Alessandra Ambrosio, armed with her favorite taupe Birkin at Narita Airport in Japan. This Birkin is particularly well traveled (as are most, I would suspect); we just saw it at the Venice Film Festival last week.
Beyoncé
Valentino My Rockstud Bag
$2,995 via mytheresa.com
Beyoncé recently had a little fun with the paps while sprinting out of her office in NYC. As you can see, she is carrying a brand new, bright white Valentino My Rockstud Bag. Bask in its glaring, minimalist glory.
Hailey Baldwin
Saint Laurent Monogramme Shoulder Bag
$2,190 via Saks
Celeb progeny has really been delivering on the bag-and-shoe front lately. Here’s Hailey Baldwin, heading in to do a little shopping at Victoria’s Secret in NYC with a lovely Saint Laurent Mongramme Shoulder Bag.
Jessica Simpson
Valentino My Rockstud Striped Bag
$3,545 via Neiman Marcus
Here’s yet another one of those Valentino bags, and this time it’s a multicolored striped version on the arm of Jessica Simpson, who is seen here venturing into LAX with her husband Eric Johnson.
Rihanna
Chanel Boy Bag
Rihanna is finally carrying something other than a Dior Diorama, which is headline-worthy in and of itself, but of course it’s a Chanel Boy Bag that is pretty similar to her favored bag of late.
Serena Williams
MCM Gold Visetos Crossbody Bag
$615 via Neiman Marcus
Paps spotted 2015 US Open semifinalist and all-around sports legend Serena Williams having dinner at Carbone in NYC earlier this week with a cute little crossbody from MCM. (And maybe Drake? Was Drake there?)
Sharon Osbourne
Louis Vuitton Soft Lockit Bag
Here’s Sharon Obsbourne, getting herself a little something at Barneys in Beverly Hills. She’s carrying a Louis Vuitton Soft Lockit, which looks innocuous enough, but is actually something of an unusual choice for Sharon. (You can peep at all of her usual Chanels and Birkins in The Many Bags of Sharon Osbourne.)
Whitney Cummings
Miu Miu Madras Flap Satchel
$2,040 via Saks
Finally, here’s one last blast from the Venice Film Festival: it’s Whitney Cummings with her pretty pink Miu Miu. I couldn’t find any info on what Whitney was doing at the VFF, but I did discover that she has recently put on 25 lbs, feels good about it and is happy to talk about it. Mad props, Whitney.
Interesting timing — in my comment on the Sep 3 PB “15 Work Bags…” article I posted a recommendation for the same Valentino myRockstud bag along with a photo and a link to Barneys, which carries it in black. I think it’s a great bag but am still surprised that its in the “Rockstud” category as it’s very different from the regular Rockstud line-up.
Rihanna carrying Chanel? It’s been ages since I have seen her carrying anything other than Dior. I like miu miu but refuse to invest cos of previous quality probs. will admire from afar.
I really love the new Rockstud. It’s so much more lady like and chic than the previous. It looks great in the stripe too for a vintage look. Gemma xx http://www.jacquardflower.uk
Is it just me, or does the Valentino My Rockstud look awfully similar to the Hermes Kelly? This is probably the only classly purse, in the entire Rockstud line. Other than the Glam Lock, most are downright tacky.
Seems to be a trend that designers cross-plagiarize each other to death these days.
It looks like one of those “designer inspired” bags you see at kiosks at the mall. Not a fan.
That MCM canvas looks so tacky. I’m on the fence about Valentino bags in general, they look like an afterthought. Loving the LV Lockit
Whitney’s bag looks like it has seen better days.
I was eyeing the Valentino bag at Holt’s… I was surprised when I saw that it was by Valentino. I hope they’ll come out with different sizes.
Awwww….my two most favorite overrated celebs in one place — Rihanna and Beyonce.
I am assuming quite a few of the celebrities are gifted these expensive bags as part of the marketing campaign. That means the cost of the gifting is reflected in the price. Paying a lot for a skilled artisan’s work and exquisite materials is one thing, but subsidizing freebies for celebrities is a whole other matter.
