Celebrities Are Quickly Proving That Red Is the New Neutral

And we couldn't agree more!

One of my favorite eras in fashion was the post-pandemic return to dressing up and loud luxury. Along with it came one of the biggest handbag trends of the 2020s—color, and lots of it. Still, as the trend shifted toward more understated, minimalist designs and quiet luxury, neutrals overwhelmingly became the bags of choice in recent years.

In fact, week after week I sounded like a broken record as the bags celebrities carried were almost always neutral. Suddenly, though, the first couple of weeks of the new year have proven that stars are catching on to what we’ve been saying about red all along—it’s a color that can act like a netural, and we are so here for it.

Let’s take a look!

Sadie Sink

Stranger Things’ Sadie Sink stopped by Live With Kelly and Mark in a chic tailored dress with red accessories that popped. She carried one of our favorites: the Prada Galleria.

Sophie Turner

Sophie Turner also made an appearance last week on morning television to promote her new series, Steal, which premieres on Prime Video later this month. While Turner wore all black, her bold-shouldered statement trench paired perfectly with Khaite’s oxblood Kye bag.

Carrie Coon

Carrie Coon, a fan favorite from the latest season of The White Lotus, was also spotted in New York paying a visit to Live With Kelly & Mark. She wore a grey tailored dress layered over a striped button-up and showed off her new pixie cut. Métier’s Private Eye tote finished off her sleek, powerful look.

Red is red. It’s not a neutral. It doesn’t work as a neutral. In all the pictures you selected, it’s obviously used as a pop of color to break up the neutral color palettes. Is this article AI slop?

Susan

I appreciate your response. This makes zero sense though.

Is it necessary to act in this manner? The way I read the article it conveys that the color red is in harmony with most all colors making it a great color choice for your next bag purchase.

I love a red bag!

I kinda love Sophie Turner style because she also wear a bold red lipstick, might be too much but i wish she also wear a red shoes as well.

I think the key is to be small for red to serve the “pop”. Among these images, I like the Prada set the best.

Loch

I actually like the blue/green Prada in the first photo

Chelsea

I was about to comment on this! That was the bag that caught my attention first!
