With summer nearly over, pop culture and fashion lovers have lots to look forward to because season 5 of everyone’s favorite hate-to-love-it, love-to-hate-it Netflix series, Emily in Paris, has just wrapped.
If you need a little refresher, or you’d like to get caught up without actually having to catch up, Emily in Paris chronicles the new Parisian life of Chicago native Emily Cooper. The series follows Emily’s, played by Lily Collins, personal and private life, living and working in Paris.
Last season brought Collins and the rest of the crew to Rome, where (spoiler alert) she falls in love after breaking up with Gabriel for good (for now). Season 5 will see Emily in Italy, and we can’t wait to see the fashion and, of course, the bags that costume designer Marilyn Fitouss has in store for us this season!
Netflix finally confirmed that the fifth chapter will premiere later this year, on December 18th. The show’s creator, Darren Star, teased it as “a tale of two cities.” While Netflix has yet to release an official trailer, they have teased us with some still images to keep us on the edge of our seats.
So while we wait for more, let’s discuss some of the bags we’d love to see on our screens next season!
To Rome With Love
Emily will move to Rome this season to open a new Agence Grateau office, which just so happens to align with where her new love interest, Marcello, resides. Of course, Paris will always be central to the series and Emily herself, but we love Italian Emily, and we’re in for a treat when it comes to her fashion choices!
Emily tends to carry smaller bags, but one thing they have in common is that they typically include a standout detail—whether that be a bright color, a fun embellishment, or a unique shape. This season, we’d love to see her expand the portfolio of brands that she carries, which often includes a bevy of French brands, both big and small.
Valentino’s new direction under Alessandro Michele perfectly suits Emily’s bold and quirky style. Like the vintage beaded Fendi Baguette last season, the Valentino Soft Vain Bag is so Emily. In Italy, carrying a pretty little Prada is a must, and I could see Emily carrying this bag to an Agence Grateau event.

Emily (Back) in Paris
Last season, we saw plenty of Saint Laurent on Emily and our favorite HBIC, Sylvie. While I wouldn’t immediately put Emily in Saint Laurent, I do like her carrying a bag that feels quintessentially Parisian. After visiting the Yves Saint Laurent Museum in Paris, it gives me that vibe.
We already know Saint Laurent will play a role in this season’s fashion. While many of Saint Laurent’s bags feel more muted for Emily’s style, I could totally see her carrying this chic and unique brocade Jamie. Emily’s Louis Vuitton Petite Malle in season three lives in my head rent-free—how is she affording that (really, any of this) on a PR salary?
Still, I’d love to see some Vuitton return to Emily in Paris, maybe the Biker bag or Side Trunk—possible from LV x TM?

Emily in the Office
Emily’s office looks have been integral to the show since the series began. After all, her job is what brought her to Paris in the first place, and much of the series is centered around her work life. Still, the last few seasons have brought us more story lines that have taken us OOO, which has been exciting for both Emily’s progression and the fashion on screen.
Still, her work OOTDs are the bread and butter of fashion, and we’d be remiss not to include a couple of bags we’d see her wearing to the office! Italian and French styles offer many differences, but one thing about Emily is that she stays true to herself no matter where she is or what she wears.
When working in Rome, she’d obviously be carrying a Fendi Peekaboo to the office, because of course (when in Rome, they say!). Back in Paris, her work looks will be as chic as ever, and I’d also love to see her toting a document pouch. IMHO, it is one of the chicest silhouettes of them all. Emily in the office would carry a red or yellow Goyard document pouch—two colors she’s often seen wearing.

So excited for the return of this show! It’s a nice, light watch, and the eye candy is up there with old SATC episodes!
