Fashion Week Handbags: Hermes Spring 2013

In all the hustle and bustle of getting through the end of the fashion season, we’ve still got a few collections that we didn’t get a chance to write about but we think you should see. The first, of course, is Hermes Spring 2013Hermes is essential viewing to any handbag lover, even if it’s not your style or anywhere near your budget. Keeping up with the goings-on of the best of the best is always worth it, no matter what you’re interested in.

Unlike recent season, Spring 2013 featured a good bit of exactly what we want to see from Hermes: bags, bags, bags, and more specifically, Birkins. The Birkin of the season is a giant weekender version with a woven front panel showcasing modern, colorblocked prints. What I loved the most, though, were the gorgeous leather backpacks, one of which we’ll surely be seeing on Kanye West as soon as he can get his hands on one. I can’t blame him at all.

RHOM: “You know what? I will hit you with my pocketbook.”

Last week I complained that Real Housewives of Miami was all talk and no action, but last night, we got the action. Karent and Adriana, Alexia and Karent, Lea and Marysol, Joanna and Romain, Elaine and Mama Elsa. Everyone had a bone to pick with everyone else, and it was resplendent. That’s what we watch this mess for, after all.

From what I remember, Joanna and Romain’s not-so-romantic dinner might be the first time that cheating allegations were actually sussed out on camera on Real Housewives, taking us one step further into the relationship-destroying k-hole that is Bravolebrity fame. Their relationship may not be destroyed quite yet, though; find out after the jump.

Name that Bag: Katie Holmes White Top-handle

The entertainment world is obsessing over Katie Holmes right now because of her high-profile divorce from Tom Cruise, and I’m focusing on her as well, but for different reasons. I’ve had a thing for Katie since her Dawson’s Creek days, and as much as she and her life has changed since then, her style has been on an upward trajectory. Since news of her divorce hit the media, Katie has focused on living a more down-to-Earth lifestyle with her adorable tot Suri.

I usually cringe at the weekly celeb rags that have a section claiming celebrities are just like us, but it looks like Katie is actually trying to achieve a more normal existence, from walks to school to grocery store visits to riding on the subway. Just because she is trying to live a more normal life doesn’t mean the paparazzi is allowing it, though – they continue to follow her every move. This week, they followed Katie underground and onto the subway, where Katie tried to fit in like the rest of us New Yorkers on the the most common form of NYC transit. We’ve already covered the many bags of Katie Holmes, and today, it’s your turn – what, exactly, is that bag that Katie has in these pictures?

Kick off your Friday with a little Name that Bag fun!

For the Ferragamo fanatic, here is the iconic Sofia in Astrakan

Some designers just do a really good job, and I consider Ferragamo to be part of that group. The brand is always creating pieces for the everyday elegant woman, and I constantly think of Salvatore Ferragamo when it comes to investment pieces. I own a few of their handbags, but I am always looking to add a new piece, and what better than this stunning version of the iconic Sofia in Astrakan.

Creative Director Massimiliano Giornetti reimagined the Salvatore Ferragamo Sofia Satchel for the Fall 2012 runway collection by finishing it in a distinctive Astrakan fur, which has a tightly textured appearance. (Not to mention that it’s a huge trend for the season.)

Tod’s to release limited edition holiday collection

My feelings are a bit conflicted about it already being mid-October. On the one hand, I’m excited for the holidays, but on the other, I can’t believe how fast the year has flown by. However, the nice thing about the end of the year is that with the impending holiday season comes a slew of Limited Edition items from some of our favorite designers hoping to entice us to open our wallets and buy.

Tod’s is one of the first brands out of the holiday gate with their limited edition run of the house’s iconic items, from the Tod’s Gommino Shoes to the Tod’s D Bag. The highly coveted Gommino shoes are available in a variety of skins and embellishments, including exotics, studs, and metallic leather. On the other hand, the D Bag, which is a staple for the house, will be warmed up for winter in white mink fur.

The Many Bags of Sarah Jessica Parker

Since we started putting together our The Many Bags of… series, we’ve had a few stars with stunning handbag collections and incredible fashion pedigrees on our list that we’ve been waiting for just the right time to profile. Well, today seemed as good a time as any to get that started, and who in Hollywood (or New York, where she lives) is more of an accessories icon than Sarah Jessica Parker?

To many people, she’ll always be Carrie from Sex in the City, but SJP has some fashion chops of her own, as we all know. What I admire about her the most is her obvious willingness to dress for herself and for whatever she’s doing on any given day instead of dressing up for photographers just because she knows she’s going to be seen. In fact, paparazzi speculate that her dressed-down weekday outfits are in an effort to discourage photogs from stalking her; if she looks bland every day, it makes it harder for them to sell the photos. Even on her morning walks to school with her kids, though, Sarah Jessica’s usually carrying a fabulous bag, even if it is with jeans and UGGs. Without further delay, let’s see exactly what’s in SJP’s handbag closet. (She must have an entire closet for bags, right?)

Michelle Monaghan carries Coach and also visits Mr. Bones Pumpkin Patch

One of my favorite movies of all time is Made of Honor. Yes, it seems like a predictable chick filck, and while that’s not entirely incorrect, it’s also incredibly sweet and fun. Anytime it comes on TV I watch it, and I may or may not own the DVD and pop it in every few weeks. Just sayin’.

Watching Made of Honor, I fell in love with Michelle Monaghan. She’s a great actress and a natural beauty. She stays out of the limelight for the most part, but of course she’s spotted here and there and the paparazzi enjoy photographing her. Over the weekend, she took her adorable daughter to the ever famous Mr. Bones Pumpkin Patch in Los Angeles, and it seems that she and every other celebrity had the same idea for their kiddos. I love that Michelle stayed down to Earth with her bag choice, a beautiful Coach Legacy Leather Duffle Bag. Price is $348 via Coach.

Check out all the accessories from the Target + Neiman Marcus Holiday Collection!

It’s been months since Target and Neiman Marcus announced that they’d be teaming up with dozens of your favorite American designers to produce a chic, affordable line of holiday gifts, and a lot of you have asked me lately if I knew anything more about it. Sadly, I didn’t; Neiman Marcus, Target and the slew of designers involved have been mostly mum since the megacollab was announced. Until yesterday, that is.

The Target + Neiman Macus Holiday Collection lookbook finally dropped, and in it we got a glimpse of exactly what each designer would be bringing to the table. Some designers stepped out of their normal niches (Oscar de la Renta designed a dog bowl!), while others hewed pretty close to their traditional markets (Proenza Schouler provided a sweatshirt and iPad case). After the jump, we’ve got the full set of accessories, from handbags to gloves to sunglasses or check out the full collection lookbook at Target.com. Form your shopping lists now – these goodies launch for sale on December 1st!

Accessorize for a cause during Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October isn’t only the first full month of fall and the month of Halloween; in the US, it’s also Breast Cancer Awareness Month, were cancer charities and brands team up to celebrate both breast cancer survivors and those who have lost their battles with the deadly disease. Not only that, but collaborations between charities and designers raise important resources and awareness for our ongoing fight to rid the world of breast cancer once and for all.

We here at PurseBlog always love it when our shopping dollars can go the extra mile and help a cause larger than ourselves, so we thought we’d round up a few fashionable, charitable items so that we can splurge for a good cause before Breast Cancer Awareness Month is over. You have two weeks of shopping time left to ensure that your dollars still go to cancer research and awareness, and if you need some ideas, we’ve assembled a few of the best limited-edition options for you after the jump. Although smoking can be injurious to health during such times, organic and safer options like Delta 8 vape pens from OCN are welcomed in small amounts.

The Michael Kors Blake Satchel Bag Knows How To Make Any Girl Swoon

I’m rather disappointed in myself that it took me this long to write about one of my all-time favorite designers, Michael Kors. In my defense, I did write about a pair of fabulous Michael Kors Bromley Boots on our TalkShoes site not long ago. Admittedly, I got so sidetracked with other fabulous bags that I forgot to talk about one of my favorites, but how could you blame me? Since I started this internship, it’s become clear that the world of handbags is nearly endless, and sometimes deciding on a bag to write about is fairly time-consuming (but definitely worth the time). I hope this Michael Kors Blake Satchel Bag will make up for me not covering an amazing designer sooner.
