When I think of Ferragamo, I think of a classic, traditionally Italian approach to leather goods. In the world of designer handbags, when many brands are trying to grab attention and make the next It Bag by any means necessary, Ferragamo stays true to its core, focusing on expert craftsmanship and quality products instead of gimmicks and flash. When you buy from the brand, you know you’re getting a bag that’s sophisticated and elegant. Now, Ferragamo has teamed up with style star Sara Battaglia to chart new aesthetic territory with a new capsule collection.
The minute I saw this collection, I fell for it. I’m a Ferragamo girl at heart (also, can we talk about how the brand’s shoes are easily some of the most perfect-in-every-way designer shoes out there?), and I’m always looking for something new. In partnering with Sara Battaglia, who has her own handbag line and is known for her creative and innovative use of shapes, colors, and design (just as Salvatore himself was during the brand’s inception), Ferragamo has created a range of bags that immediately grab your attention.
Sara Battaglia brings her playful style to the line with two of Ferragamo’s iconic motifs: the zigzag and the House’s Gancio emblem. The end result is masterful craftsmanship that showcases geometric patterns in colorful combinations. From a small shoulder bag, to a tote, to a cool bucket bag, there is an option for everyone.
As far as the colors go, there’s classic black and white, black and green (which is an online exclusive and personal favorite), a white and beige with subtle touches of every color of the rainbow, and the combo I call fire, with its ombre red-to-orange-to-yellow combination. The colorways are bold and perfectly suited to each bag to create stand-out accessories.
Though there are many bags being offered in this collection, I have two favorites: the Ferragamo Zigzag Capsule Mini Flap Bag and the Ferragamo Zigzag Top Handle Bag. Both of these bags are oh-so-me in so many ways. First off, let’s talk about the Zigzag Mini Flap Bag. The green-and-black colorway is exclusive to Ferragamo.com, and this mini bag immediately stuck out to me (there’s also black/white and red/orange/yellow combinations, and each pack a stylistic punch).
Right now, I either carry an oversized bag with everything I need for Millie or I go bare minimum, and this bag would fit the times I want a small bag to carry. This bag measures 5.5″ x 6.6″ x 2.1″, which makes it a true mini bag. This is the ideal night-out bag that will work with any outfit and surely stand out with its bold black and green geometric zigzag exterior, along with the gold Gancio closure with a starburst plate. The shoulder strap has a long 20″ drop, and there’s an open back pocket, interior zip pocket, and leather lining. Buy exclusively via Ferragamo.com for $1,590.
My other favorite from the collection reminds me of a vanilla ice cream cone with colored sprinkles, and, I mean, who doesn’t feel happy at the thought of that? I am obsessed with this bag. The cream-and-white zigzag leather has green, blue, pink, red, and yellow piping along each zigzag, and this bag also has the coolest removable zigzag strap, which I’m obsessing over. The bag is still small in size, but larger than the Mini Flap Bag and easier to load up with a wider variety of essentials. This is one of those bags that isn’t too out there, color-wise, but still offers a fresh spin on classic Ferragamo style. The end result is a sophisticated edginess. Buy via Ferragamo.com for $2,100.
The collection includes plenty more bags that use the zigzag in unexpected and striking ways, including totes, buckets, mini bags and more. The Bucket Bag is a really unique design, as the body of the bag is structured and the handle is made of metal. Each melds Ferragamo’s heritage with its present point of view in a way that works so well, creating an impeccably made design with a twist.
