Big Bags Are My Favorite Bags

What can I say? I like big bags and I cannot lie.

When we covered the Bottega Veneta Pre-Fall 2019 bags in December, I felt a renewed sense of adoration for the brand and developed a major fashion crush on newly appointed creative director, Daniel Lee. Lee was announced as the brand’s new creative director in June of last year, and he’s already switching things up tremendously. While some Bottega Veneta fans have expressed displeasure with the new direction the brand is moving in, I for one am loving it, and I’m particularly fond of the oversized handbags that are featured front and center. It was such a breath of fresh air to see supersized bags rather than another round of mini bags. Fashion is cyclical—I’ve known big bags would be back at some point or another and I’ve been patiently waiting. I’ve bided my time and let mini bags have their moment, and it finally looks like the time has come for big bags to re-emerge. The mini bag trend has been reigning supreme in the handbag game for far too long and I’m ready for the incoming wave of oversized bags to hit.

Sure, Bottega Veneta’s oversized bags are pretty over the top and probably impractical, but at least they’re not itty bitty!  I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I carry a lot of stuff and I need my bag to hold it all and look cute while doing so. Not only is a large bag practical, but I love having it serve as the focal point of my outfit. Maybe it’s because I’m obsessed with the Olsen twin aesthetic? Whatever it is, I’ve always held a special place in my heart for big bags. From a financial standpoint I am also a fan, even though bigger bags usually come with bigger price tags. My reasoning for this is that when the size of my purchase is larger it tricks my mind into thinking I am getting more bang for my buck, which makes me more inclined to buy bigger. Maybe I’m not really getting a better bargain, but in my mind the logic holds up, and I’d always rather pay for something larger.

While I don’t think I’ll be buying anything quite as large as Bottega Veneta’s new bags, I’ve done some research on behalf of all big bag lovers and you can call me Goldilocks, because I’ve found sizes that are just right. Not too large, not too small, but the perfect size for anyone on the go who wants to carry around their essentials comfortably with a little room to spare. Check out some of my favorite big bags:
