How do you feel about bead work on a handbag? Unfortunately for me, bead work seems to be very hit or miss. There are some bags where the bead work is exquisite and I want nothing more than to find a reason, any reason to carry that particular bag. Then there are other times when I simply don’t understand why a designer would settle for misplaced or thoughtlessly placed beads. This kind of “detail” can take any relatively decent bag and make it absolutely fugly. So, here I am, on this gloomy Tuesday wondering where this particular Rafe bag falls.
My initial reaction when I came across the Rafe New York Karolina Ikat Beaded Clutch was that I liked it. Well, that was until I zoomed in on the bag and my reaction quickly changed. More than anything, for the size of this bag, the beading is too large for my taste. Perhaps if the beading were a bit smaller I’d like it a bit more. The orange cotton canvas is a fabulous color for Summer and the ikat beading pattern does add a unique feel to the bag. Unfortunately, this particular uniqueness isn’t enough to make me want to buy the bag. You can carry this bag as a clutch or use the chain strap for another option. But, I am still wondering, is this bag a hit or a miss – what do you think? Buy through Nordstrom for $250.
