Earlier this summer, we spotted style icon Zoë Kravitz carrying a Saint Laurent bag that we’d never seen before. Featuring the brand’s iconic gold YSL Cassandre logo and the same oversized quilting as the Icare Maxi Shopping bag, we knew this bag was destined for greatness.
Shortly thereafter, Bella Hadid was spotted toting a suede version of the rounded mini bag, and we were immediately having flashback’s of last fall’s most anticipated new release, debuted by Bella herself months before it was released.
When Saint Laurent backs its bags with a big celebrity push, you know it’s going to be a big one for the brand. We finally have the scoop because the Saint Laurent Icarino is finally here, and it’s joined by its big sis, the Icare Hobo.
Let’s take a look!
The Rise of the Mini Moon Bag
The rounded, moon-shaped mini bag remains one of the handbag world’s most loved silhouettes. While a bag that needs to be hand-carried once was fussy or seen for nighttime only, in the 2020s, it has completely rebranded itself, and I cosign this because it’s a shape I get more use out of than I ever thought I would.

From the Prada Arqué and Bottega Veneta Jodie, to the Celine Lulu and more, all of our favorite brands have embraced the mini moon bag. Saint Laurent, too, is giving the people what the want with the addition of the Icarino, which arrives in black nappa and brown suede, defined by its quilted leather and gold YSL Cassandre hardware.
Design Details and Price Point
Like the BV Mini Jodie, it offers an open interior with no pockets, and its overall dimensions are 6.7″ x 5.1″ x 1.2.” Retail for both the leather and the suede is $3,000. While the YSL logo elicits strong opinions, it’s rooted in history and is one I find chic. This bag has all the makings of a bag I’d use enough to actually warrant a purchase—and I haven’t felt that in a long time.
Also joining the Icare family is the bigger version of the Icarino, the Icare Hobo. It arrives in nappa lambskin leather with oversized diamond quilting. It offers the same sleek style with a larger interior and allows for shoulder carry in addition to top handle wear. Retail is $4,300.

They need to make a bigger logo on it, i can’t even see it.
hahahahaha
I wish the logo was removable, I can see myself stabbing an intruder with it in an emergency 🙂
actually a brilliant idea, I mean it.
hahha
Another Saint Laurent bag that’s just about a big shiny logo. Really pathetic.
I agree. I saw a woman carrying the hobo and what i thought was “hey everyone, please please notice that this is YSL, please I hope everybody knows this is YSL” it looks pathetic
I’m glad there’s a tote and hobo version now. The original Icare was too big for my 5’1″ frame but I love totes so I can’t wait to check out the tote in person and try it on. I hope they also come up with more colors.
I’m over influencer freebies. Once it’s given away I’m fully over it
We didn’t get one for free!!
This bag is the epitome of why Saint Laurent is in the gutter There is a reason why Saint Laurent revenue is down 11% YOY, following a dramatic downward spiral since 2022. Lack of innovation, increasing prices for mediocre quality, emphasis on logos everywhere when that’s a complete negation of the original aesthetic of YSL, market saturation, etc. Kering’s mismanagement of its top brands (Gucci, Balenciaga, and Saint Laurent) should worry investors and clients alike.
Yes, some LVMH brands are also struggling in this uncertain economy—but they have the financial, creative, and structural strengths Kering lacks. And it’s well known that Arnault is working on dumping his unprofitable brands from the LVMH portfolio. By Marc Jacobs!
