Mini Review: Gucci Horsebit Hobo

Bag 2 of #stayhomewithbags

Day 2 of #stayhomewithbags is a double whammy, as it’s #throwbagthursday as well! I dug deep to find this Gucci Horsebit Hobo, arguably one of the bags that started it all for me. The year was 2005 and Jessica Simpson had multiple versions of this bag, and I became obsessed (check out The Many Bags of Jessica Simpson part 1 and part 2 – girl has some great bags).

I didn’t have enough money to purchase it for myself, but funnily enough my dad was on a work trip to NYC and wanted to get my mom a new bag. He called me and asked what he should get her, and I sent him to Gucci to look for this bag. The sales associate talked to me over the phone and they settled on this stunner (the version I clearly wanted for myself). My mom loved the bag, but unluckily for her it was too heavy and gave her frozen shoulder (no really, it did). Because of that, I took it and made it mine.

The hobo is an underrated shape in the handbag world, and when done right it looks beautiful on the body. The leather on this bag is divine, incredibly thick and smooshy. The horsebit detailing sits atop the structured shoulder strap and because it’s larger, it can brush against your body some. The larger hardware, oversized shape, and thick leather, do combine to make a heavy bag however. It made this bag hard for daily use, but it is a standout design. It seems like perfect timing to share this bag as the Horsebit is back in a big way for Gucci and finding a bag that is suddenly current again is really cool. Shop current Gucci Horsebit bags now!
