It’s hard to grasp that we’re only 10 days away from a new year, but believe it or not 2021 is coming, and it’s coming fast. It has been a year unlike any other and while may of us are eager to leave 2020 in the past (and rightfully so), I still think it’s important to look back at everything this year has taught us. Many of us have been able to slow down a bit, spend time with family and friends and appreciate everything that we have, though it would be remiss not to mention that others have also seen unimaginable hardships this year. Though this post is meant to be lighthearted and fun, it’s important first to recognize that the ways in which this year impacted all of us vary from person to person.
With all that being said let’s get down to why we’re talking about the new year here in the first place. No, we’re not going to recommend you join a running club or go vegan (but if you want to more power to you!), rather we’re here to discuss what 2021 means to you in terms of the thing that binds us all together: handbags.
When it comes to bags, I’m sure I’m preaching to the choir when I say that this year my bags got less use than ever before, and using my bags less and less really helped me to see which ones I reach for the most. When taking your handbags out for spin becomes a novelty rather than an everyday occurrence, it becomes incredibly apparent that yes, sometimes we do play favorites!
With that being said, my main handbag resolution is get more wears out of my lesser used bags. I’ve come to a point in my collection where I’m happy with each piece I own, and wouldn’t think about selling anything. And despite using some of my bags way more than others, the ones that don’t leave their dust bags as often are still an integral part of my collection. I’d really like to diversify the bags that I wear day to day a bit more which will also stop me from getting bored and wanting to buy something new just because.
My second main handbag resolution is to continue to shop more mindfully, and only buy a bag that I truly, genuinely love and cannot stop thinking about. I’ve discussed before how I haven’t been that excited by bags in a long time, and I want to continue to lean into these feelings so that when I do make a big purchase, it’s the right one. With that being said, this year I’d really like to add one new bag to my collection: the Bottega Veneta Cassette Bag.
What are your 2021 handbag goals and resolutions?
Definitely somehow afford the Sac de Jour medium. Or at least work myself to death till I can.
You have talent. You will manage.
Thank you! I hope you achieve your handbag resolution too!
Just hope the pandemic will end so we can all go out with our bags at last!
Me too! Badly need to go to the salon haha. But im hoping for my first birkin next year. I hope and pray it is finally the year. Supposedly i was going to buy it this year but chanel sabotaged me with the rainbow pouch. I want to sell more too but i dont know what because im satisfied with my collection.
What I would really like is Valentino rockstud tote, the bigger one. I think it is an amazing bag.
I hope that I would be able to buy it in 2021. I chose it because I need a big bag since I take a lots of stuff with me because of my kids and this tote seems to be perfect as a diper bag and later for work, too. And the price is quite reasonable too for a designer bag.
I have one in tricolor pastel. Its beautiful! You will never go wrong with it. Fits a lot too. More use for me since it has the lock while my other tote (Goyard St. Louis) is completely open.
Thank you for your encouragement. I want it in opal gray. I am crazy about this color even through i will have to be more careful because of the light color. But now i don’t mind. I am loving it
Still want a mini Lindy.
Had planned on a YSL College to celebrate a milestone birthday this year. I’d been looking at this (and other YSL) for a long time. But, it seemed too frivolous to splurge on a handbag, with nowhere to wear it. Maybe the next milestone will be at a better time. Or an obsession with another handbag.
Go with what you want. I’ve been eyeing the college bag for forever too. Why would I want a Gucci that every third person has???
I wouldn’t go with YSL tbh. It doesn’t hold its value and it’s certainly not as relevant as it was maybe 5 or so yrs ago. Invest in Bottega Veneta, Gucci, Balenciaga etc…
While I mostly agree re: resale value of bags, sometimes the heart wants what the heart wants. I recently bought a bag, sold on a resale site, that wasn’t “popular”, but I loved it and got it new at half the retail price. I also have a YSL college, black on black, and it looks sophisticated and beautiful. Whatever “Never Enough” chooses I’m sure it will be perfect for her? (Him?).
Love “the heart wants what the heart wants!” Every time I spot an elegant quilted leather bag, it implies sophistication and taste. Not so much the obvious or glaring logos. More like fashion victims. Thank you all for your comments!
Thanks for weighing in. I do love the Bottega Veneta line, or a Gucci reissue. The Horsebit 1955 may be calling out to me!
Yea I’d go with the horsebit hands down. It’s timeless so you won’t have to worry about passing trends. If your heart really calls for it that is.
all I want for christmas is a LANDleather bag
I am really looking forward for Bottega Veneta pouch in interreciato. Hoping to save enough to buy it next year.
I bought and sold many bags this year.. my resolution is to 1) complete the clean out of unused bags 2) start to learn and condition my bags
I want a Ysl bag in 2021,something exciting after this pandemic is over hopefully but really confused which one to get.between the college,Niki medium and Lou Lou medium.I will be happy to get advice on which one to buy
All are good choices. You really need to see them in person to try on and compare. And the hardware finish is another consideration. Happy decisions!
Purse peace. Cannot wait to sell a couple pieces and take care and appreciate what I already have.
Same!
I might buy my first Chanel bag. My employer gave us all a very unexpected $1K year-end bonus. Plus I am hoping for a promotion early in 2021. My bonus and a portion of salary increase might be put toward such a bag.
