Celebrate Earth Day With Mansur Gavriel’s Upcycled Woven Leather Totes

Stylish with a sustainable twist

When Mansur Gavriel burst onto the scene ten years ago, designers Rachel Mansur and Floriana Gavriel introduced their namesake brand with just two simple silhouettes, a Bucket Bag and a Tote Bag. The brand began with one major goal in mind. To provide well-crafted, beautifully made bags of quality leather that were simple and available at a reasonable price.

The brand has stayed true to its mission while also expanding into other categories along the way. Their brand signifier has always been simplicity with incredible quality, offering bags with no hardware, studs, or frills. The brand’s latest bag is a bit more intricate, with a sustainable new twist.

The Classic Tote, Reinvented

Earlier this spring, Mansur Gavriel introduced a small collection that is the first of its kind. The upcycled capsule consists of limited-edition totes which are handcrafted of the leftover trimmings from the brand’s classic vegetable-tanned leather bags. The result is a stunning, intricately crafted bag that maximizes material usage in a concerted effort to minimize waste. This capsule collection marks an important step forward for Mansur Gavriel, moving towards a more sustainable future.

Quality and Construction

While the tote is made from leftover materials, the bag certainly doesn’t feel like an afterthought. Each tote is carefully woven by hand in Italy from scraps. The bag consists of pieces of Italian vegetable tanned leather upcycled from the brand’s archive. Each bag can fit a “14 laptop, with overall dimensions of 9.8″ L x 13.8″ W x 5.1” D. The bag’s interior is unlined, showcasing the beautiful woven technique. A limited quantity of five different colorways is available exclusively online for $595.

The Inspiration

The designers behind the cult favorite indie brand spoke about creating this unprecedented capsule, stating that the richness of the vegetable-tanned leather inspired the upcycling.

We never wanted to throw the excess away. It felt natural that such a leather would be used for an upcycle project.

Stylish and eco-friendly, these handwoven totes reinvent a brand classic while marking a sustainable step for the future. Discover more and shop via the link below.
