Want It Wednesday: All Things Gucci Rosso Ancora

We just can't get enough...

Gucci Rosso Ancora Mini Jackie Notte 1

Gucci continues to find its footing under the director of creative director Sabato De Sarno. Since his first collection made its runway debut, it was clear that a new Gucci was here, but this one offered a touch of nostalgia, as De Sarno was committed to reviving the brand’s heritage codes with a contemporary spin.

With his first collection came the introduction of the color of the season and a hue that will forever be synonymous with De Sarno’s Gucci: Gucci Rosso Ancora. Shades of Gucci Rosso Ancora appeared at that very first runway show on silhouettes like the iconic Jackie, which was reimagined with a new hook clasp and dubbed the Jackie Notte, among other new shapes.

A New House of Gucci Brand Signifier

Quickly enough, it became clear that Rosso Ancora was more than just the color of the season but a new House signifier for Gucci. Now, two years into his appointment at the House, it’s been confirmed that Rosso Ancora is here to stay. Popping up once more on the runway for Spring 2025 and again for Pre-Fall 2025, we just can’t get enough of the now-iconic hue.

From shoes and accessories to belts and, of course, bags, each new season brings an array of new pieces that ooze De Sarno’s vision. Many of them come dressed in Gucci’s distinct shade of red. Below are some of our favorite offerings of the bold hue, which offer a distinct Gucci style with the added bonus of staying power.

I had an OLD gucci wallet I loved. I went into a store and the sales person said she owned and loved the matching handbag and recommended it to me. She went into in the back of the store – – forever. She came out and said they only had one left to buy. The bag was nice but when I opened it it had long hairs in it (like hers) it and was clearly used. I think she was trying to sell me her used handbag… for $7k.
I haven’t been in a store since. Online only for me. This was in Tampa. fwiw.

Wow, just wow.

I love the Rosso Ancora color. It’s not Burgundy and not red. Just a very saturated in between. I moved heaven and earth to get my paws on a pair of patent Jordaan loafer in this color. They are stunning!

You know that SNL skit where Ryan Gosling plays a graphic designer having a mental breakdown because the blockbuster movie Avatar uses the MS Word stock font “papyrus” for its title?

I think that’s me with De Sarno’s decision to switch from the iconic piston clasp to a stock dog leash clasp on the Jackie. Why? Was it meant to be subversive? Did he want to evoke the glamor reaching down to grab a dog collar? Maybe one of his assistants presented clasp options and he just picked at random?? I need to know!

Linda

Agreed. Tom Ford’s version will always be my favorite.

The hook clasp was the original closure used on the bag in the 60’s the piston was introduced in the later versions I like the piston better too.

I was very displeased by that decision as the piston is the best part of Jackie for me. And my theory is that they wanted to create another class of exclusivity, and price point, for the Jackie 1961. A bit desperate.

It’s a lovely shade of red
