SNAPSHOT: Gucci Thiara Medium Double Envelope Shoulder Bag
It’s very clear that Gucci is having its moment right now and has been for some time, and it’s not too much of a stretch to say that that in the accessories world, 2018 is the Year of Gucci. Alessandro Michele’s work continues to wow me collection after collection, even if it means taking a previous style that has worked well for the brand and reinventing it. However, in this case, Michele introduced a brand new bag silhouette on Gucci’s Pre-Fall 2018 runway and wowed me with its clever structure. The Thiara Medium Double Envelope Shoulder Bag is unique, fun and seriously versatile.

I was immediately drawn to this bag when we first got a glimpse of Gucci’s Pre-Fall 2018 bags back in December. Right away, I noticed how different the shape was and I thought it was really cool that this bag was like having two bags in one. I love that for a simpler, less out-there look you can wear the bag on the solid leather side, which also has Gucci’s double GG hardware on it, or for a more dressed up, eye-catching look, you can wear the bag on the opposite side. The other side of the bag features a gold striped logo print over leather, with Gucci’s always-iconic painted enamel and crystal encrusted feline head. While I adore the style of this bag, with that comes a couple of cons. For starters, the bag does not lay flat on your body if the lion head is facing towards you, and it can be rather uncomfortable on your hip. In addition, the double construction of the bag means that the bag is slightly bulky. However, since it’s like having two bags in one, the design is fairly roomy for an evening bag, so you won’t have to compromise on what it is that you need to carry for a night out.
The Gucci Thiara is made of smooth leather and has a really nice hand to it, and it’s not super delicate and does not seem to scratch easily. It’s a fairly good sign when we receive bags to review that are in great shape, because often press samples are heavily used and sent out to many different publications for shoots. The fact that this leather wasn’t scratched and was in great shape overall means that this bag will likely hold up well and age very nicely. Lined in fabric, both sides of this doubled-constructed bag feature an interior slit pocket as well as a zippered pocket, which makes this bag really functional in my eyes. You can carry various small items like lipsticks and other cosmetics in the zippered pockets, which saves you from having to carry a small cosmetics pouch, as I often do.
Antique gold hardware accents the smooth leather, and the ‘Gucci gold’ toned hardware is one of my favorite things about Gucci’s of-the-moment bags. I love the muted gold logo, thought the top handle chain is made of a shinier gold. Both sides of the bag feature a flap with a magnetic snap closure and a removable/adjustable shoulder strap. The delicate top handle chain is not removable, but adds a nice touch if you’re carrying this bag as a clutch. Overall dimensions of the Thiara Medium Double Envelope Shoulder Bag are 6″ H x 10.5″ W x 3″ D. You can grab this beautiful and innovative flap bag for $2,890 via Gucci.

I’m still waiting for the Cover Girl logo to disappear already
Oh no, I can’t unsee this…
Oh. My. God. I thought I was the only one. I just recently started getting interested in Gucci and was utterly perplexed by the GG logo. It’s either unintentional and somehow made it through what had to have been dozens of brand execs, all of whom called in sick on logo approval day” so it just slipped under the radar and now we have to deal with it — or it’s entirely tongue in cheek, intentional, and Way Too Fashion for me.
I think you should probably consider that it is an italian brand and they have no idea about cover girl…
I mean that would make sense if it wasn’t 2018 and they were somehow entirely insulated from the rest of the world. Cover girl is a 50+ year old brand, I feel pretty confident it’s penetrated the Italian market at this point
I live in Rome and I have never heard of Cover Girl, I am very confident noone here has any idea what it is…
No, it hasn’t. I would have never associated Gucci with Cover Girl, no Italian would. Trust me.
It certainly has in the Ticino, the Italian speaking part of Switzerland. It’s sold in the Migros supermarket chain that’s everywhere in CH.
I know the brand, but I would never associate it with Gucci. I mean, the first Gucci shop was open in 1921, it’s one of the oldest and most famous Italian brands, no Italian sees the Gucci logo and thinks about Cover Girl.
Not even a single Italian would think that the logos are similar? How do you know the thoughts of every single Italian person? No Italian travels to the US and buys makeup locally? No Italian comes across an American fashion magazine and flips through the makeup ads? Seriously, why is this even an argument? We are all joking around, for goodness’s sake.
There’s no need to be so aggressive and so “US über alles”. Gucci was founded in the ’20s, Cover Girl in the ’50s but Gucci reminds of Cover Girl? I don’t know the thoughts of every single Italian person but Cover Girl is not a famous brand, here. That’s a fact. It’s not Estée Lauder, or Elizabeth Arden or Maybelline… And, what makes you think that I’m totally serious? Gosh, people can be so heavy…
You ARE totally serious, just by your tone. You also completely missed the point. We are talking about this one particular logo, not Gucci the brand as a whole. I’m sorry this is so confusing to you. Take your own advice — there is no need to be so aggressive.
No, I’m not serious, are you capable to understand the tone of written words?!? Wow. Relax. Gucci is Gucci, not Cover Girl. What it’s relevant in US is not relevant worldwide 🙂 Does the use of a smile help you realize we’re not talking about crucial topics on a blog dedicated to bags?
Whatever you say, Noemi. We believe you 🙂
They do look quite alike, but why is the question whether Gucci knows this.. shouldn’t this faul be on Cover Girl?
*facepalm*
LOL what a great comment I totally agree!
Basically, it’s turning your regular bag inside out and adding flaps to the dividers creating a bulky look with very limited interior space. I don’t like or dislike the bag. I’ll just pass by the bag in a department store. The price is ridiculous.
I’m in the minority but I really don’t like what Gucci is unloading on its shelves. It’s pretty much the same stuff recycled over the past few seasons. I understand it’s very popular, but it’s simply too loud and busy for me. I’m moving more and more towards BV and H. Am I just getting older? lol
I love their bum bags. They’re playing with the classing monogram in fun ways. They’re finally being innovative and premiering products that appeal to different tastes. There’s something for everyone at Gucci now.
This is one ugly bag.
I like the green color and…ummm…that’s about it. No thanks. LOL, so true about the CoverGirl logo!
I want to like it, but it just comes across as tacky. The stripes with the lion head end up looking cheap. I hope it feels more luxe than it looks.
Great styling shots, however I don’t tend to like those flat flap styles because it usually means I have to be careful that it doesn’t bulge.
Love the honest account, good to see rich people feel that all too familiar guilt. If it was me, I’d be unflinching.
Hard no. Saw this bag on vacation and passed. All these bags feel too “of the moment”. I like trendy but also sustainable.
Honestly, I really dislike this. I’ve never been a fan of double-sided bags like this. It makes me want to avoid putting a lipgloss or keys in it for fear of stretching one side.
i like it its retro i just can not stand that animal head ……..
I know that print is from the archives, but I’m not a fan of this. The solid leather side though is a different story.?
Looks cheap
Hello everyone, I know that this post is old…but I like to check reviews of a bag before I purchase. I purchased this bag (green/black) 2 years ago on the pre-loved market and I tell you, I love it!!! Very beautiful in person and I really like the versatility with it…so much so, that I just bought another one (cream/black). Just wanted to put a positive review out there for anyone on the fence about this. I say get it! This bag is gorgeous!!!
