Just when we thought we’d had our fill of the archival revival trend, Fendi surprised us all when the Spy Bag returned to the runway at its Fall 2025 show.
Debuting in 2005, the Fendi Spy quickly rose to popularity at the height of the It-bag era. Defined by its braided handles, rounded flap closure, and secret compartment, the bag was released in countless iterations during its seven-year run.
Y2K Nostalgia and a Centennial Celebration Set the Stage for the Spy Bag’s Return
It was beloved by celebrities and It-girls alike, and in many ways, it helped define a generation evocative of the fashion integral to the Y2K era. There’s no better time for Fendi to bring back the Spy. Not only is Y2K fashion a continuing trend, but add to the mix Fendi’s centennial celebration and the Spy Bag’s 20th anniversary, and the Fendi Spy is primed for a major comeback.
The bag officially launches this Thursday, July 17th, but of course, celebs are granted access to things before the rest of us mere mortals and have already been spotted all over the world with the revival.

aren’t they gifted these? so the obsession is literally being paid / given these bags. yes i’m also obsessed and will wear it to costco if im gifted one! i pretty much exclusively buy 2nd hand now and take a long time to consider my purchases – i don’t want random “celebs” to dictate my spending. Also i’m sick of influencers getting free things. lol, im petty!

I haven’t seen the new Spy in person yet (hoping to this week!), but I can’t wait to see it and compare it to the original. I like how the straps feel softer and twisted in this version!

no way! The straps on the original were the wow factor! When I saw the rumors that they were going to reissue this I was determined to run immediately to the Fendi store near me and grab one but when I saw the new straps it was all over.
