Gucci Went Back to the Future with an 80s-Themed Handbag Spectacular on Its Spring 2018 Runway

Alessandro Michele continues to both refine and expand his rococo Gucci universe

Gucci is, right now, one of the most reliable fashion brands in the world. Alessandro Michele arrived at the helm of the brand with what has turned out to be a remarkably detailed and all-encompassing vision of a new Gucci universe, and in the couple years he’s had the reins, that vision has only gotten more detailed and expansive. Until now, much of that universe had taken inspiration from the 60s and 70s, but for Spring 2018, Gucci has taken a step into the past-future with a heavily 80s influence.

As has become the norm under Michele, the runway’s emphasis was on abundance, and there were dozens of handbags to enjoy. The most notable were the cute little crossbodies that featured Gucci’s misspelled name in a retro video game font—you can bet they’ll start popping up on street style stars shortly. For fans of Gucci’s existing bags, there were plenty of new versions of recent favorites, like the Marmont and Sylvie lines.

Check out all the bags below.
