While no one in organized crime likes a snake, our handbags say otherwise because python is back, baby. It’s time to ditch those mob-wife-inspired leopard bags in favor of something else.
We’re suddenly seeing an influx of the eye-catching, statement-making exotic after a few bags had popped up here and there over the last few months.
This comes after we spotted python at the runway shows of Bottega Veneta, Marine Serre, and Louis Vuitton for fall 2024. Now, there’s no denying that it is indeed making a comeback, and as the trend cycle predicts, it’s time.
It’s been a few seasons since we’ve seen a rise in this exquisite exotic. As far as trends go, exotics are anything but subtle and minimal. While you could call them the antichrist of quiet luxury, python bags act as the perfect counterpart, adding a pop to an otherwise minimal outfit.
While in years past, pythons were offered in a variety of colors, this season, it seems that things are trending towards more authentic shades of python. Today’s offerings include faux exotics in the form of embossed leather as well as real skins.

Fake python usually feels and looks very cheap. Real python or other snakeskins tend to be quite delicate due to the scales lifting.
Gorgeous but too delicate
I prefer python trim rather than a bag made entirely of python. Even so, a little too delicate. Not to mentions the restrictions on python goods. Although, IMO, there should be no restrictions on bags, belts etc certified to have come from pythons killed in the Florida Everglades. The pythons there are invaders devastating the native wildlife.
I have a Tom Ford Jennifer bag in python with gunmetal hardware that I bought at half price back in 2018. I love it, I was just carrying it for the last few weeks of August. I remember stalking that bag online until it finally went on sale, and feeling psyched about the bargain I got as I carried it from the boutique. Seems even more like a bargain now with today’s prices.
