The Handbags of Chanel Métiers d’Art 2012

For those underwhelmed by the sea-themed bags from Chanel Spring 2012, we have a treat for you today. Chanel Métiers d’Art 2012 debuted in a exquisite show in Paris’ Grand Palais earlier this week, and the intricately detailed handbags that accompanied the India-influenced collection will likely wow Chanel lovers and casual fans alike.

If you want a great explanation of the multiple reasons why this collection’s India reference was such a brilliant move by Karl Lagerfeld, Style.com’s review really nails it – the last days of the Raj are a fitting metaphor for the current political and economic climate, not to mention that the inspiration is a relevant comment on how fashion manufacturing has changed in recent years. Or, if you just want to see the bags already, hurry up, geez – they’re after the jump.

i love it! a very Luxurious(with a capital L.. you just have to.. hahaha) take on the Indian influence of opulence and luxe glamour… everything is just a treat for the senses… the feel of beautiful leather and the chains and crystals on your skin.. the sight of gleaming accents everywhere.. the smell of meticulously tanned leather.. and everything just falls into place you can almost taste the opulence…. If only i had the money to have all of these.. i wont even hesitate for a bit..

I love 8 and 12

I guess there wasn’t much to carry in the last days of the Raj! They’re beautiful, but none big enough for much to take with.

These bags are truly art!!…my faves are #1,8,10,16,17,19,21,24!!….no bag was left without creative details!!!!

amy

beautiful <3

Elyse Greenberg

the little pyramid clutches are positively stunning

Jen

Wonderful. I’m so tired with the minimalism look, that these bags are really refreshing to look at. I’ve always thought that bags should be like jewelry to an outfit. Go Jil Sander-sparse with the outfit, but then glam it out with a bejeweled Chanel purse.

Pam

Gorgeous! I am not generally a fan of Chanel bags, but I have to admit, these left me drooling!

JackieMar

Soo gorgeous .. Such works of art and Chanel can do no wrong

Alexandra

The last one is my favourite. Love the design on it.

Simar

These are a little too overembelished for my liking…I love #10 though.

# 2,4, 11, 14, 21, and 23 are fab. Generally, I like the opulence, it is just something different to my daily handbags which are more neutral. However, I am not sure about some of the colors. But hey, who am I to criticize Karl?
Btw, the location of this runway show looks awesome. Wow. Chanel knows how to create an unforgettable event.

Simpaus

Those parcels-bags look a bit funny, but the rest I just adore! 😀

Nadia

OMG! I love Karl! These are all stunning, each in its own way. I’d die for each and everyone, especially the clutches!

Mari

Oh chanel, always perfect!

the last pyramidal one is a work of art. i think i’d just look at it, it’s so gorgeous!

Chanel is the definition of luxe. #17 is my favorite. I also love the emerald green color of #23.

Bag #24 resembles an exotic taco!!! So overdone…..

#1 is such a classic!

ninjaninja

I think #4 would inspire a lot of DIY projects.

ninjaninja

I love how #10 looks so casual and so luxurious at the same time.

ninjaninja

I want #12 in black!

ninjaninja

#12 would look perfect on me because I’m so petite!

ninjaninja

I also love the details on #25.

ninjaninja

#24 is also another bag I want!

ninjaninja

So unpractical though…
