Earlier this year, Chanel presented its Fall 2023 collection, and almost instantly, it was clear the collection was an ode to Chanel’s French roots. A palette of black and white with pops of pretty pinks and a bit of red, the collection explores Chanel’s eternal House codes, the ones that are most integral to its DNA. The bags are a testament to that, exploring the camellia flower in many forms.
“The camellia is more than a theme, it’s an eternal code of the House” – Virginie Viard
One of the House’s most feminine codes, the camellia flower, dates back to Coco Chanel herself. This season, it appears printed on bags like the new Chanel 22, fashioned from sequins onto Classic Flaps and adorned onto the closures of bags. Of course, the new Kelly is here as well, which Chanel is calling a Mini Shopper.

I guess I can appreciate some of these bags but I won’t be chasing any of them. I bought into the Chanel vibe and hype for a long time, but with age comes wisdom and even though I can well afford it, I’m no longer spending ridiculous amounts on handbags. Health, family, relationships, mental wellbeing – these are my main focus now, not “things”.
It’s amazing how what we think is important changes. I feel the same as you. In my 20-40’s all i bought was chanel and LV now im so over both brands and even though i can well afford either i just can’t justify $7k that is not made nearly as well as the bags 10 years ago.
NOW- can you say the same thing about Hermes? 👀
Well said agree
This is perhaps the most intelligent thing I’ve read on here in a long time. Lastly, Chanel is just a very tacky brand that is completely oversaturated nowadays and the quality is pitiful to say the very least. Ppl who buy into this brand just want to impress the masses and it’s just so inauthentic it’s embarrassing.
You can say that about ALL luxury brands!! Even your “Hermès” is a clear cut STATUS SYMBOL 🤦♀️
Exactly! Their price increases but their quality decrease sooooooo bad! It’s like people buy Chanel just for status.
Think I’ll just keep my $5K+ in the bank…
Are you going to buy any luxury bag then? 👀
There is a fine line between classic and same old, same old.
The way Chanel has just been Karl reruns since he left…
As much as I admire a few of these, I think I’ll pass. For decades I said, when I can afford . . . then I could afford and still could but no longer feel the same degree of desire. Its strange, I know!
yep same! craziness
I could have written this same thing.. so strange right!
I really wanted to love something, found this season a little disappointing
These prices are making me desire Tory Burch chain handle bags instread with mini break to boot. Bit controversial but I think we have hit “peak bag.” In conversation with my girlfriends, we are all looking to spend less and own less…
There are some really cute bags here. However, Chanel still gives me a granny vibe, and everything always looks so…heavy.
agree. have never been a Chanel fan partly because I’m not into black or chains. I think some of their pastel or navy pieces are pretty, but Chanel just looks as you said, heavy, especially for warmer climates.
I feel like Chanel is about to get the exclusivity they want. I feel like the prevailing winds are shifting. It will be interesting to see if their attitude changes if sales drop significantly.
I do like the small shopping bag and the small box bag, but am not going to drop more than $10k for the pair, or even more than $5k for just one. Neither one strikes me as an “investment bag” and there are many attractive premium designer bags available that cost less.
Disappointing. Nothing special
The red small box bag is so good!
Can’t stand anymore Barbie, bag is total boring. Also, the prices now are just stupid. I feel my love for it just floating away.
With these prices and “meh” look of bags, they will get their exclusivity status. Only for those who salivate for Chanel. For the amount of $4,000 and up, we can get other beautiful bags from other brands with divine quality! So hooray for Chanel!
Love the barbiecore bag. Not plan on buying any of these bag tho. Sorry Chanel
Love the Chanel 22 but not for $6400!
You have to remember most of these bags have canvas lining. Gone are the days when you spend thousands you expect a 100% leather interior. Chanel without Karl Lagerfeld is so blah. The edge they had in making granny hip is gone. Thankfully for Chanel LVMH is there to show that Chanel is still luxury in comparison.
Many cute bags and I hope the quality matches the prices ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Shame on Chanel for their strategy, lack of creativity and steady unjustified price increases proportional with the dwindling quality. Karl Lagerfeld is turning in his grave. Way to go V Viard: you turned a luxury brand into a laughing stock. Her only « achievement » was creating a garbage/burlap sac with the CC logo
I would rather put on a wedding dress and jump in front of a range rover driving, tory voting deludenoid than be seen dead in any of the above. There once was a day when I liked looking at handbags. Too many today are over reliant on logo and little else. Where has the imagination gone? Is it them or is it the consumers that seem to just do as they are told without demanding some sort of imagination or quality in return?
