Fashion brands love to make a spectacle of themselves, and no one does so quite as big as Chanel. The brand’s runway shows are known for their themed fanfare, novelty bags and overall over-the-top presentation. However as to be expected, this year things looked a little bit different when Chanel presented its Cruise 2021 collection yesterday afternoon. Chanel’s Cruise runway show was supposed to take place on the Italian island of Capri, but the world’s current events had other plans for the brand, and this year Chanel showed its newest collection digitally.
Virginie Viard told Vogue that she travelled to Capri in her mind to create this collection while on lockdown in France. The pieces as a whole are inspired by the idea of a destination wardrobe—easy, summer looks that are both effortless and cool. When it comes to the bags, and there were plenty, Viard presented shapes that are elevated, yet wearable. Chanel’s Cruise bags are typically all about the details, and these bags are no different than what we’ve seen in years past. Viard embraced chains, which were spotted on new versions of the Chanel 19 bag and caged-like bucket bags. Flap bags were seen throughout with novelty details like sequins and colorful tweed. Additionally, embellishments took center stage in this collection, which is chock full of lust-worthy new bags. One thing that’s missing from this collection is the themed, novelty bags that Karl Lagerfeld’s Cruise collections were known for. Though they weren’t everyday bags, they were wearable works of art that gave the collections such life.
Take a look at bags from the collection below, which will hit stores at the end of this year.

Very fun!!!
they’re beautiful!! but tbh i’m not ready to see the price tag on them 🙁 lol
You are SO right about that ?? hahaha
Especially with the recent price increase, I’m saying “yikes” already.
such a fun collection!! thanks for the much needed eye candy.
I think the beaded “belts” are cute! And the “necklace ” is fun!
I do like the belts! I could see those being ‘forever’ pieces in my closet. I would leave the necklace though.
Mehh…the last photo looks like someone stuck a chain on a Chanel bath mat. I would feel ridiculous wearing a Chanel necklace bag. A few of the pieces are ok and, I suppose, “fun” but this collection is best left to those super rich customers who don’t care what they throw their money away on.
After reading your comment, my first thought was, “yikes.” Because you’re so right! Love your honesty.
I think the terrycloth bag is definitely for people with the bank accounts where they can afford to have kitschy bags. I want a sturdy bag that will last me years.
The terrycloth “bath mat” bag looks like it’ll be a dust-magnet. I’d leave the necklace on the shelf, as well. Even if I won it, I can’t see myself actually wearing a Chanel purse medallion.
I think it’s an airpod case?
I’d totally wear this as an airbud case since it beats digging around my bag to find it 🙂
Yes, I think that you are right! I looked again and saw the small opening at the bottom of the “bag”. Thx!
I don’t care for the cloth bags.
Some very cute ones in this collection..but not at those new prices.
These are beautiful!
LOVE these! The blue in #11 is stunning. That dingle around the neck in #2 looks useless but cute. It has hole not he bottom, Is it a headphone charger?
Yes, I hope they release other styles in this beautiful blue/dark teal!
I want the strappy ballet captoe flats!
I think the beaded “belts” are cute! And the “necklace ” is fun!
ugh is it just me or all they all pretty much hideous
