The heart is a symbol of everything we hold dear. It signifies love, obviously, and has been reinterpreted in countless ways. It’s universal in its appeal, and worldwide, people place their hands into a heart shape to spread love for so many things (don’t get me started on the millennial heart hand versus what the young kids do).
When inspected further, the lines represent beauty in form, motion, and endless loop. It’s not surprising that Bvlgari, famed Roman High Jeweler, was able to reinterpret the heart in the most modern and stunning way.

This is Serpenti
Introducing the Bvlgari Serpenti Cuore 1968 Bag, whose name quite literally translates to “heart.” It’s an elegant design: the handle and the body of the bag come together to form a heart, with the captivating snake-shaped handle completing the heart shape with the curved leather body design.

Bvlgari introduced its new Serpenti Cuore 1968 bag to coincide with the Year of the Snake. Not only does it celebrate the year of the snake, but it is also a multifaceted symbol with deep roots for the house. The mystical icon forever embraces change by being reborn, making it timeless.
Being a jewelry-first company allows Bvlgari to expand and innovate its bag offerings with a jeweler’s eye for precision and ingenuity. The snake handle is crafted from gold-plated brass hardware and further embellished with tonal enamel scales and zirconia eyes.

As the name outlines, the shape brings together two halves of a love heart, one formed by the bag’s leather body and the other by its snake-golden handle. When opened fully, the leather also forms a heart, as this bag is meant to be a love letter. A love letter to its wearer and the world that views it as a bag that not only ties back to the brand and its most enduring emblems but also brings joy and happiness to those around it.

Though impeccably structured and compact, this bag captivates with its rich palette and artful detailing—an effortless statement for the woman in motion. While smaller silhouettes continue to define the season’s most coveted styles, this piece offers a sophisticated, contemporary interpretation with a touch of playful elegance.
While the term cool girl again shows my age, is this bag not ideal for the cool girl? The girl who loves bags and jewelry, the one who looks for compliments on her bag of choice, and the one who dares to be different? This is the girl (ok, fine, woman) I want to be. The one that remembers that you can have fun with your choices while selecting a bag that gathers adoration and admiration for every inch of its beauty. That is what this bag will allow.

Making-Of The Serpenti Cuore 1968
With vast attention to detail and a jeweler’s eye, this bag is approached holistically and pristinely. The silhouette first grabs attention with the hardware detailing as each piece is welded in the handle to the jewelry-like optional chain strap.
The leather should not be forgotten, as it is still the main body of the bag, and the beauty of the hardware coincides with the luxurious leather and stitching. The bag is crafted from supple calf leather with added padding to accentuate its shape.
Speaking of techniques, the gold-plated brass handle is executed using the very complex ‘lost wax’ technique, which is a deep-rooted jewelry-making tradition. You can see this come to life below, as a mold is created around a wax model then the metal is poured into the mold, then cleaned and refined.
Each scale of the enamel decorating on this mold is hand-set, tying back to the company’s long-standing meticulous design and roots.
The Bvlgari Serpenti Cuore 1968 is offered in black, white, pink, light blue, and red leather. Each bag will be delivered in a signature Bvlgari box that represents the Eternal City.
The price is $4,850 via Bvlgari.com.

Cute to look at but not to wear/buy!
Wholeheartedly agree. Will enjoy from afar. It really is a piece of art for a collector who has everything.
I would really like to see some pictures of the bag being held. You don’t get a feel of how it looks IRL from just the bag alone
And ALL the photos are of it laying on its side.
That is how the bag sits – on its side. We show it both lying down and on the side 🙂
Would be cute to see the heart opening described in a paragraph!
I usually like the unusual/quirky designs, but this just looks an ear to me…
Can’t “unsee”🙈
Buglari is one of the luxury companies I actually respect and enjoy their creations. They like to bring everyone in on their production process with videos and editorials. Their YouTube channel has multiple videos of the head of their jewelry department (Lucia Silvestri) going to India to source their stones and her creative processes but also other department heads to give you an in-depth look into the processes at Bulgari. Their bags I find are very good quality AND they haven’t jumped on the OUTRAGEOUS luxury price blow ups that other brands have done. Its a company I can respect and hope they kind of stay under the radar of influencers death knell.
The handle is beautiful and my favorite part is how it opens to form a heart.
This is LOVE. So creative and so fun!
They look like stylized ears…
Looks like a dove to me
Nice to see an article about the new Bulgari bag! I recently posted about these new bags on TPF (I was able to see some of the new bags when I was at Bulgari to pick up my Roma bag). I’m still not sold on the bag shape, but I love that handle — it really reflects Bulgari’s artistry and jewelry.
I wound up loving this bag in person – love the attention to detail on the handle as well, it is a true work of art!
A work of art. Just not sure would be easily carried.
I ❤️ this bag. Stunning. This is why I have been swinging by TPB since the early aughts.
It’s very beautiful but as others have mentioned, more a work of art than a bag I’d actually have the opportunity to carry….
