Heritage Auction House is one of the premier destinations for bags at auction. Its 2022 October 6th Autumn Luxury Accessories Signature Auction brings many bags and accessories, from possible record breakers to collection starters. I previewed the lots to give you a rundown of my favorite picks, and we will bring you more from this auction so you can bid!
There is the ability to preview the highlights in NYC on October 3rd and 4th at Heritage’s office, 445 Park Avenue, New York, NY 10022. Otherwise, there is a floor session and an online session for bidding (details can be found here). Let’s kick this off with the bag that will have everyone talking.
Record Breaking Rarity
I have to start with the bag that is a unicorn of unicorns, a bag that will be the talk of the auction and could break records: Hermès 30cm Diamond Matte White Himalayan Niloticus Crocodile Birkin with 18K White Gold Hardware. That’s right, not only is this the rare Himalayan Birkin, but it has diamonds on the hardware, which makes this one of the most sought-after rarities in the bag world.
Exactly how many diamonds, you ask? It’s 245 diamonds which total 10.02 carats, and this sits atop white gold hardware. The Himalayan Niloticus Crocodile is one of the most scarce finishes for the House of Hermès, and it refers to skin coloration. The subtle ombrè coloration is meant to be reminiscent of the Himalayan mountains, and it is a dyeing process that takes many hours to complete.
While we’ve seen more Himalayan Birkins for sale at auction, the diamond version remains one of the rarest and most expensive bags to hit the auction market in the world. The opening bid for this bag is $200,000, and it is expected to sell for between $400,000 and $450,000.

One of my favorite aspects of an auction is the wide variety of bags in special-order one-of-a-kind combinations of colorways and limited edition items. This is where you can find something so special and incredibly hard to find.
