Valentino’s Fall 2016 Variation on the Rockstud is Quilted and Super-Studded

In the Rockstud’s relatively short life, it’s been worked and reworked in what seems like a million different ways. Crystals, camouflage, butterflies, stripes, leopard, red studs, black studs, pastel studs: those are just the versions that popped into my head while typing. For Fall 2016, Valentino has bestowed upon the bags an embellishment they’ve somehow never had before: quilting.

Despite the fact that quilting (especially diamond quilting, and especially alongside chain straps) is so heavily associated with Chanel, the studding makes these bags feel unmistakably Valentino. Which, if you think about it, is a pretty neat trick to ensure the Rockstuds’ longevity: the style has lived so many lives that Valentino could do nearly anything to it, and as long as the studs and delicate chain were intact, it’d still feel right. Check out all the runway bags, quilted and not, below.
