Yes, that is right, this is a fanny pack. Didn’t we vow to never wear fanny packs again? I mean, I am pretty sure that I promised myself and made friends and family members also promise to never wear another fanny pack. But, are there exceptions to this rule?

My gut says no, but my inquisitive side wants to delve a little deeper. By no means do I go out searching for fanny packs, but when I came across this one today at Shopbop, I obviously had to share this with you all.

The Kettle Black Utility Fanny Pack tries to make you think fanny packs are acceptable, but, I am going to give that a big no thanks. After I got over my initial shock that there are “fashionable” fanny packs out there, I couldn’t help but notice how the two pouches remind me a bit of saddles. The last thing I’d want is to have two saddles hanging off of my waist. I can appreciate the pebbled leather and antiqued gold hardware. But these materials should have been combined for a clutch or a small bag instead of a fanny pack. The braided and studded straps are part of the adjustable waist strap (strap is 31″-34″ long). Sure, this is an interesting take on that classic fanny pack you might have sported back in the 80’s, but for me, this bag is still a no-go. Buy through Shopbop for $341.

Just say no to fanny packs. I don’t care that they aren’t nylon with mesh pockets, I can never wear this style.

Noo!!! Please let fanny packs stay an horrid 90’s ‘trend’.

I suppose if for some unfortunate and unknown reason I needed to wear a fanny pack, this would be a cuter option then those awful nylon ones floating around disneyland though.

I must admit that when I first saw this I thought it was one pouch and I imagined how cute it could look if font and to the side of your waist. Then I realized it was two! I definitely thought ‘saddle bags’ after that!

  • Tracey

I’m so with you on this – this is one trend that should NEVER be done again.

Can we say “Yeehaw?!” I imagine this would look great on a cowboy (or cowgirl). Looks so western and something I could never pull off. Not without my cowboy hat, jeans, brown leather (suede) vest, and bandanna tied to my neck, and a my trusty horse. I could pull this one off just fine!

So in short, no thank you!

No thank you. I remember when I was a kid I had a bright hot pink fanny pack with a black zipper. I thought I was so cute. Now I know better and promised myself I would never ever ever wear one again, and I can still say this when I saw this saddle bag fanny pack on shopbop. I hate my hips, thighs, and waist so the last thing I want to do is draw attention to them by wearing two saddle bags near my natural saddle bags. yuck
