As much as I love Rick Owens’ industrial minimalism and Maison Martin Margiela’s subversive modernism, I’m an absolute fool for a girly, sparkly clutch. There’s just something about them that speaks deeply to my inner child who still harbors hopes of one day becoming a princess, even though I figured out early on that I was going to have to marry extremely well for that to happen. (That’s just how my brain works. I knew at a young age that spontaneous princess-hood was not in my future.) I’m pretty sure that when holding one of the Marchesa Fall 2013 evening bags, though, I’d come as close as humanly possible to actually feeling like royalty.
If there’s one thing that Marchesa knows, it’s details, and lots of them. The majority of these tiny bags are absolutely jam-packed with stones, beads, sequins and anything else that’s tiny and shines, but because of the bags’ small statures, the baroque-rococo approach works beautifully. If you’re not as enthusiastic about beading (but really, you should be), the collection also offers some more sedate exotic options, plus what I believe to be a first for Marchesa: a day bag. Pull your lunch over to your desk and check out all the eye candy below. These bags will be available in a few months, but in the meantime, you can shop Marchesa’s Spring 2013 collection by Neiman Marcus.
