Christian Louboutin Anastasia Clutch, $2345 via Neiman Marcus

If you’re a regular PurseBlog reader, you know how I feel about fur bags, even though I’ve softened enough this season to allow fur accents without too much griping. And then I see something like the Christian Louboutin Anastasia Clutch and I remember why fur bags are a bad idea all over again.

Only one word came to mind when I saw this bag: Pomeranian. Because the bag is made out of fox fur, it already has the look and color of a canine to it, and the coppery shade and length almost exactly match the tiny dogs beloved by people who want to carry their pets in their handbags. Unfortunately, this clutch looks like you’re trying to carry your pet as your handbag. I’m just waiting for it to poke its little head out from under the fur and start begging for a Snausage.

My gripe with fur, other than the well-know ethical issues surrounding its use, has always been that it’s generally too long and lush to work in the structured, functional world of handbags. And this clutch proves just that – despite obviously having a frame under there somewhere, the bag looks like nothing more than a giant furball that you’ll have to carry around by hand all night. And actually, that’s exactly what it is, not to mention that it probably looks like your pet’s long-lost cousin. Buy through Neiman Marcus for $2345.

    It looks like a Tribble.

    • Cara

That was my exact reaction too.

The moment I read the title for this post, I knew it was Amanda who wrote it. You really are hilarious. And right on the money, as usual.

My other problem with this bag (apart from the obvious ethical issues) is that it would be such a pain to carry around! You have to be careful that it doesn’t lay on a dusty surface, or doesn’t snag with a button or zipper, or doesn’t get caught in too strong a wind. And how do you keep it from getting knotty? What, I have to brush my handbag, too? I barely have time to brush my own hair.

That poor, poor animal. So NOT cool.

  • gpc

    Amanda, you are too funny.

Just don’t get the need for real fur on ANYTHING. We humans are such poor stewards in the animal world when it comes to this. I keep hoping that future generations just say NO to fur… What a complete and utter waste of life to kill an animal just for its fur!

      What about leather then?

      • Deb

It is different. The leather comes from the animals killed in the meat industry, you are just using the entire animal, while, in the case of furs, the animals are killed (in a horrible way, I most add) just for the fashion. I find it repulsive.

  • Ali

This is really sad. People should think before buying a bag like this.

  • roberto

as a bag is totally unpractical but is so adorable i can’t resist falling in love with it

  • MizzJ

Hmm, maybe it would be useful to keep your chihuahuas warm in winter? :p

I don’t mind fur, because most of the animals are bred for their fur, just like we breed animals for food. It would be different if we were killing off the wild population of animals.

  • Lorie

    OMG. It’s Boo!

  • AW

lmao it really does look like you’re carrying a dog around. Not a great thing and I think the fur will get in the way when you’re opening and closing your bag each time.
