Alessandro Michele Makes His Valentino Debut for Resort 2025

Bringing his maximalist aesthetic to the storied Roman House

Valentino Resort 2025 Alessandro Michele Debut 36

Alessandro Michele has been hard at work in the short time since it was announced that he would be taking over the helm of Valentino from Pierpaolo Piccioli.

Michele is no stranger to tight timelines. When the Creative Director’s tenure at Gucci began, he had just a couple of weeks to pull together a Men’s collection. This time, Michele had around two months to prepare for the Resort 2025 season, and today, we have a look at what Alessandro Michele’s Valentino will look like.

Known for his maximalist aesthetic and quirky designs that explored the fun side of fashion, Michele immediately acquainted himself with Valentino’s archives throughout the design process. The collection feels inherently Michele, offering hints of hippie-chic with edge, returning to a different era of Valentino.

“Valentino was never a minimalist, rather a maximalist, even in the ’70s when he was at his most streamlined,” Michele told Vogue.

The collection overall feels luxe but wearable, and there are a ton of new bags to dissect. While Michele offered riffs on classics like the VLogo and the Valentino Loco, new shapes take precedence, like a structured flap bag that offers a similar feel to the Gucci Horsebit 1955, revived during Michele’s reign.

Like the collection overall, bags feature elements integral to 1970s fashion, like studs, fringe, suede, and floral print jacquards. While it typically takes a few seasons for a designer to find their footing, this collection marks a new era for the House of Valentino.

It’s awful. Just stick a big V on stuff and call it “design.”

edia

loving the “looks like gucci”-comments. it looks like alessandro. that’s what it looks like. alessandro by way of valentino.

James

In my opinion it’s the job of a creative director to adapt to the brand you’re working for. If he wants to do “Alessandro” he should do his own brand.
This feels very uninspired and nothing to do with Valentino…

edia

if you look at the designs vogue proposed as to why he is a good fit for valentino historically, you might just eat your own words. also, it is very much not what brands are looking for anymore. the designer is a brand. they may work with house codes and logos, but they are hired for their personal vision and credentials and their name. your pov is very old fashioned and not at all current to what is happening anymore

Françoise

This. 👏🏼

Christine

Well said!

Sunny

If I’d have a big logo hardware plastered on my bag, it’ll need to be a good looking one. Sadly the Valentino V logo just doesn’t seem to make the cut.

A Woman Of A Certain Age

Yes! No matter how great the bag design, the logo ruins it.

Terri

No thank you.

Sandy

Yikes, no!

Erin

Ugh, major let down. These all just look like Gucci bags imo…

Tracey B.

Well, I love this collection! I’m huge fan of Alessandro Michele’s aesthetic. Sabato’s collections are boring!!! Goodbye, Gucci — and hello, Valentino!

Marathon

lol this is really bad.

spoiledinseattle

It’s like Gucci does Chloe doing Valentino, but there are some beautiful bags here

bags22

you all read my mind. gucci all the way, but i prefer the gucci version

Ross

So basically a Gucci Valentino bag? All those scream Gucci, if you replaced the V with the GG I would never tell… 😆, I’m gonna pass these

Just one more

Consider every “handbag” within the context of the framed outfit. Each is extremely appropriate for the fabrication, proportion and function. Frame by frame, the total vision whether classic, boho, trendy, dressy or casual is realized within the Valentino world. IMO a very inspired collection.

Margot S.

I much prefer the gucci horsebit. To me it is more elegant and classic. These bags would not stand the test of time in my closet. Which is why they will never be in my closet.

Brandy Robinson

I love the collection 🤍

Did you guys hear about this? I’m shock you haven’t posted anything about this yet. It’s all over the internet.
It has to do with Dior handbags.
An investigation into labour exploitation in fashion’s Italian supply chains has already entangled Armani and LVMH, accusing the companies of failing to adequately oversee their suppliers.

Bianca

“It’s all over the internet.” 🤣🤣 Maybe even PurseBlog has standards after all.

Puplover

? Why did you move my comment to the bottom

CalmDownGurl

Your comment goes to the bottom because it is the newest and it has zero likes… it’s not a conspiracy. You can do relax.

Puplover

Girl you need to clam down! Who do you think you are telling ppl to take it easy. When I simply asked a question you got nerve

CalmDownGurl

I answered your question baby. So now you can calm down. You’re not a victim. 🌈🤷🏻‍♂️

ivana

that looks just like the gucci horsebit..

Passerine

That first bag looks like it was made from a 1980s floral sofa cushion. No thanks. The beaded floral evening bag has possibilities. The camera bag is ok but there are plenty of camera bags out there as good or better. The rest…. mehhh. Pass.

charlottawill

I immediately thought of the tapestry handbag my grandmother carried when I was young. It had plenty of room for a can of AquaNet and cigarettes.

Josieverona

Just love that floral beaded evening bag

destiny

Well less people will now be interested in buying the gucci horsebit bag..seeing how the valentino ones are so similar.

Dardiva

Absolutely love his creations old world , 70’s not boring collection. Best designer in last 50 years.
