Patent leather bags are here to stay— at least for now. As we head into the cooler months, with holiday collections dropping now that it’s November, more and more bright and shiny bags are hitting the scene. While nothing beats a black patent, patent bags come in all shapes, sizes, colors, and aesthetics—there’s truly something for everyone!
Patent leather is tougher than softer leathers that are prone to scratches and wear and tear. It also offers a nice shine to take your purse to the next level. What’s even better is that it dresses up any outfit without being as in your face as crystals or sparkles.
A popular go-to of the 90s and early 2000s, the shiny material continues to see a major resurgence, and the fashion crowd can’t get enough of it! From Saint Laurent and Givenchy to Prada, Chloé, and more, we found 15 of the best patent bags to add to your holiday wardrobes!
The best part? You can wear them now and beyond because even though they feel festive and offer high shine, they don’t scream holiday. More below!
As cute as these bags are isn’t there a concern about color transfer?
Always!
There’s a concern of them yellowing over time too
I used to think patent would last forever…instead it lasts for never. Never again…and it does not matter who the designer is.
I had 2 patent bags (lv vernis and a chanel mademoiselle) for 10 years. Sold them 6months ago because of color discoloration. As much as i like them i will never buy a patent bags again.
To me, they look cute in photos but rather cheap IRL
Patent does not age well no matter how much you try to protect it. I will never pay designer prices for a patent bag again….maybe preloved….but not even sure of that.
To me the gucci jackie looks the best in patent, every other bag in leather 🙂
I bought a LV patent Houston bag with logo imprint back in 2007 and it is still just as pretty. No color transfer and easy to wipe off.
Finally! I feel like these babies have been waiting 15 years to reemerge! I have some amazing Chanel patent bags that are amazing quality and they wear amazing well, in black or darker colors. The patent is soft and supple like butter, cheap patent will look cheap but find good patent and you will love it especially in rainy weather, it’s fantastic! Agreed that light colors are tricky but dark color like the ones shown here will be fine. You can polish them with a microfiber cloth to buff out scuffs and keep them shiny. They look so elevated and chic.
I’m sorry but the Chloe Marcie SADDLE BAG in patent is AWFUL!! It’s just..wrong!
In my experience patent bags go sticky with age. Anyone can advise how to prevent it?
