One of the biggest handbag trends of the 2020s has been the east-west silhouette. From elongated shoulder bags to super-stretched clutches, no silhouette was safe from the east-west update.
The east-west silhouette continues to trend. Still, as we move further into 2026, new shapes are beginning to emerge, and the almighty hobo is one of them.
A 2000s favorite, the hobo’s reign ruled the It-bag scene back in the aughts—think the Saint Laurent Moombasa, the Fendi Spy, and of course Tomas Maier’s Bottega Veneta Intrecciato hobo.
The Sleek Hobo Steps In
While the mid-2000s saw the return of boho, and with it the slouchy, smooshy, carries-it-all hobos of the aughts, 2026 signals a return to slimmer, sleeker hobos—and we are so here for it.
Offering cleaner, less angular lines than the east-west trend and a sleeker, more structured appeal than the slouchy hobo, this shape screams It-girl, and it’s easy to see why designers are already returning to the shape.
Nail the Look
This past Fall 2026 season, we saw the shape on the runways of Hermès, Chanel, and Prada, where the Cleo returned to the runway after seasons away. Still, the shape is already seeing quiet momentum this spring, with minimalist options from Savette, Khaite, and Tory Burch leading the pack.

I’m a big fan of structured hobo’s as it makes finding items easier.
I will always be a fan of a good HOBO bag!
