Move Over Basket Bags, Woven Bags Are Taking Over for Summer 2020

Fresh fom the runway you're going to see this trend everywhere

When designers presented their spring 2020 collections last fall, we saw a surge of woven and knotted bags walk down the runways. It’s not all that surprising as pool and beach-ready novelty bags have been a go-to inclusion for designers’ collections the last few years. However, this season brands have taken it one step further and moved beyond the wicker basket bags and hard-sided bags that have been trending the last couple of summers. This year, we’re seeing a surge of soft, knotted bags in both leather and fabric. We first covered this emerging trend with Fendi’s spring 2020 collection, which featured woven iterations of its ever popular Peekaboo bag. Now, we’re seeing tons more of these bags from brands at every level. We found 11 options ranging from $30 to over $3,000, so whether you want to snag an afforable option that you can quite literally carry to the pool or you want a bag that’s more for the everyday, we’ve got something for you.

None of the bags here are appealing and I’m not spending nearly $4k on a BV fabric bag that could be ruined with a misplace pen mark or a small spill. For those who miss the “old” BV woven style, I highly recommend checking out Jennifer Tattanelli. Great quality, prices not unreasonable and they’re very happy to discuss customized color options or other unique features. https://jennifertattanelli.it/collections/women-handbags Hoping that the store in Florence will re-open in the not too distant future and that PB travelers will be able to see their stock in person!

I disagree, some are really cute, but I do agree they are overpriced. There’s not enough material in the bags to deserve a price like that. I really think your paying for the name more than the product,

Who the hell buys the crazy stuff we see for sale: Hermes $500 lipstick case, the BV $4k beach bag, the list goes on…

I have a friend who is extremely wealthy and only shops in high end boutiques for EVERYTHING both for herself AND her children. Even her tee shirts and flip flops are mega brands. I don’t think she’d be caught dead in a Zara or H&M. So yes, she’s the customer who’d drop thousands on a BV beach bag. Go figure….

Over my cold, dead body.

Love all these. The BVs remind me of the chains we used to make out of gum wrappers.

The greed of these brands to push overpriced trash on gullible customers as “trends” fueled by social media is pathetic. With the crash of the economy with COVID, customers will be triple thinking where their hard earned money is spent. I agree that this trash will end up where it belongs…in landfill
Classic and functional pieces will always have a demand and I predict brands like longchamp, coach etc who continue to deliver in quality, functionality, pricepoint and style will thrive this epidemic.

This kinda started a couple seasons ago with the iconic Moreau Staud bag.

Holy CRAP! Emphasis on the “crap”. For a whopping $3,700, Bottega Venetta couldn’t do a woven tote in leather???
