Bigger Is Better: Oversized Bags Are In for Fall

Here's a fresh trend to keep on your radar as we enter a new season...

PSA: There’s a little more than a month left of summer. (I know…it’s crazy.) As you soak up these last moments of sunshine and beach time, the team here at Purseblog is eagerly looking ahead at fall’s latest and greatest trends.

Among them? Oversized bags. Though totes and shoppers are nothing new, the upcoming season has them poised to be more in style than ever. That may explain why, over the last few months, we’ve seen bags such as the Dior Book Tote and the recently released Louis Vuitton Onthego blow up in popularity, both in stores and on social media.

Anyway, we’re all for the rise of totes. More often than not, they’re functional, durable, and beyond spacious. They’re also perfect for anyone starting a new job, returning to school, or getting back into the rhythm of work after a long summer break.

If you ask me, I’m eyeing the Isabel Marant Wardy Iconic Leather Shopper Tote Bag. I appreciate the distressed leather, and the price is pretty affordable compared to the others. Of course, the list wouldn’t be complete without the sought-after Onthego, as well as a few picks from Proenza Schouler, Saint Laurent, and Loewe.

Loewe Cushion Soft Grained Calf Leather Tote Bag ($1,950)

Louis Vuitton Onthego ($2,440)

Valentino Garavani Rockstud Hype Medium Tote Bag ($2,875)

Chloé Vick Wide Leather Tote Bag ($1,190)

Saint Laurent Manhattan Medium Crocodile-Embossed Tote Bag ($2,250)

Isabel Marant Wardy Iconic Leather Shopper Tote Bag ($995)

Proenza Schouler Large Suede Tote Bag ($945)

Mansur Gavriel Vegetable-Tanned Leather Sun Tote Bag ($895)

Saint Laurent Niki Crinkled Calf Tote Bag ($2,190)

Proenza Schouler Extra-Large Crackled Metallic Tote Bag ($1,095)

Thank god. I’m tired of seeing so many tiny bags I can fit nothing in.

Not a tote person. I’ll just keep with my mini bags.

Ummmm Dior book tote not on here? That would seem to me the most obvious of the trend setters for the larger bag.

Amazona

It was mentioned. Who wants to see another Book Tote? It’s very vintagey and nice but it’s so over social media and PB it’s nice to see an article on big bags without having the same ol’ bag plastered all over the page.

Oh I don’t like them AT ALL. Not even a tiny bit. But, the fact that people are frenzied over them and buying them off the shelves I think has to be taken into account.

Never going back to big bags again. Was initially forced to downsize what I carry due to the mini trend, which was difficult at first, but now i’ve gotten used to it, I’m not going back.

We shall see lol

I like the Loewe tote bag – lovely streamline design.

I really like totes especially when traveling. They are great to carry my sweater, magazines, books, iPad, drink and snacks. I could never get behind the micro bag trend because they can’t carry my stuff. Also, they remind me of the bags my 4 year old granddaughter carries. Anyway, my first thought when I saw the Chloé Vick Wide Leather Tote Bag was that it looked like a “butt”. Omg! And now I can’t unsee it!

Marvel

I’ll never go back to large bags.

I like minis and big purses. For me it is all about what mood I am in. Do I want to be Mary Poppins today or not? Typically though, I normally carry the giant” you can fit an umbrella in this” bag.

If it cannot accommodate a cross body strap, it is a deal breaker for me
