Sex and the City undoubtedly pioneered the cultural impact that television could have on modern fashion, captivating audiences around the globe and catapulting handbags to ultimate it-bag status. While a generation of bag lovers remembers those early days of Carrie Bradshaw and her iconic Baguette, for the next generation of handbag lovers, like myself, who came of age in the mid-late 2000s, Gossip Girl was to us as Sex and the City was to the those that came before us.
Gossip Girl premiered in 2007 when I was a senior in high school and instantly was a hit. My friends and I would gossip, no pun intended, about the latest drama between Blair and Serena and constantly argue which character we were more like. The show captured the attention of most American teens at the time. Was it the insanely lavish lives of uber-rich kids living in New York City that intrigued us? Or maybe it was that, at the end of the day, high school problems are the same for all of us, rich or not?
Some of us, no doubt, stuck around for the fashion. The outfits, the accessories, and the bags (oh the many bags) were all drool-worthy. Costume designer and stylist, Eric Daman, perfectly curated each character’s aesthetic to match their personalities. With the filming of a reboot already well under way, we thought it would be fun to look back at what the original characters carried throughout the first few seasons of the show. Take a look below at some of our favorites which include a slew of fashion’s most iconic it-bags as well as some ultra-rare beauties. Were you a Gossip Girl fan?
You forgot Kelly Rutherford’s 35cm Hermes Birkin in cognac ostrich leather.
Can we start a petition for the return of the Miss Dior Cannage Bag, please?
And the Celine Watch Me Work too please!!!
That was a fun trip down memory lane.
The whitest show ever apparently.
I see your comment and validate your feelings 🙂 @disqus_E4C56lVgwZ:disqus
Please Stop making it always about race.
… says the white girl.
LMAO
sure did
All I see are a bunch of bags that, at that age, would have found them too…mature.
To quote Gossip Girl herself in the finale episode, “children acting like adults, adults acting like children…”
Most of these bags & clothes are truly hideous!
RIP Henri Bendel
Didn’t this post make you the original Bendel store on 5th Avenue? They should have never branches out to suburban shopping malls.
You forgot one of the most special ones!
And this was also Blair’s best look of all time.
I have the chanel mademoiselle. Im thinking about selling it.
I tried so many time and I still hate their fashion lol
How were they so successful it finding hideous shoes so consistently? 🙂
I don’t get the last purse’s name because “vert foncé” means “dark green”, and it’s… yellow? anyway. Very nice read, I love a good throwback <3
IMO the Chanel purses shown there are timeless along with the Hermès! the MIss Dior Cannage is such a beauty too, although the others look very 2010's (they are great and beautiful pieces nevertheless)!
Yep. Definitely not vert foncé!
Lily’s look is pretty much timeless. The rest look a hot mess.
All of Blair’s coats are still to die for. Almost makes me miss living in winter. Almost, but not really!
Thanks for the blast from the past!
Love this show!
The way that Kelly bag is closed…. Noooooo! Don’t ruin the beautiful bag!

As a big-time fan of the original book series (when I was 13 to 16-years-old), I have always refused to watch the show, as I knew it would change characters and story-lines (for the worse). These photos have confirmed that I was right in my convictions.
