Throwback Thursday: Celebs and Their Chloé Paddington Bags

The year was 2005. Carrie Underwood won American Idol, our very own PurseBlog was brand new, Destiny’s Child decided to part ways and so did Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey. It was also the year that Chloé released its Paddington Bag. The Paddington was released with a fanfare unlike any other, amassing huge waitlists with purse lovers around the world clawing to get their hands on the handbag world’s latest it-bag. Characterized by its iconic oversized lock (which is quite heavy and cumbersome), the Paddington remains one of the most iconic it-bags of all time, remaining an instantly recognizable piece of handbag history even 15 years after its original debut. While we’ve already taken a look back at other Chloé bags of the past, we thought it would be fun to dedicate this entire post to the beloved bag, which was spotted on some of the 2000s biggest stars. Additionally, like any other successful style, the bag was released in various iterations during its time in production. Take a look below and let us know if you own(ed) one of these icons!

The Paddington is very iconic, even though not very practical. The Paddington Tote is heaven…

So according to the 20 year rule these will come back in 2025 ;)) I’m ready!
The Paddington was the one bag that started my luxury handbag obsession. I was way too young when it was released (11) and didn’t know about it for a few years. After seeing it on a girl in my school I started obsessing about it at 14, reading everything I could find on the bag (that’s how I got onto Purseblog!). At 17 I had saved enough money to buy a beautiful baby blue second hand Paddington off ebay for unbeliveable USD150. The condition was amazing! I still remember my astonishment at touching a luxury handbag for the first time (they weren’t a thing in my family). It was the nicest item I ever saw at that point. It was art to me. Almost ten years later I have a decent luxury handbag collection, some new, some second hand pieces and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Exciting journey! I’d seriously love to read a Closet Confessional about you!

Thank you for your lovely comment! Where can I apply? 😉

I dont see it. To me this is THE ugliest bag in bagdom.

I love the look of so many Chloe bags but they are all so heavy so I have never pulled the trigger.

I just got an ivory colored one for Christmas. I had always wanted one and couldn’t afford it at the time. Now there only $200ish dollars on the second hand market so I got it as a little treat to myself. Mine came with the dust bag and tags and looked practically new! It’s an incredibly dated bag though, it definitely would never pass for a modern bag by today’s stands/aesthetic, and the huge lock is incredibly cumbersome, but it’s a cute little day bag!

I still want a Chloe Paddington. Unfortunately, it probably won’t happen. While it fits my style, I think that it’s too big for me now. Ugh! I love that bag

These are so nostalgic – I hail the pre Kardashian Era where celebrities wore.their own clothes and didn’t go out in full make up – I still like Chloe bags

I still have a snake Paddington and pull it out occasionally and enjoy the bag all over again.
