Sometimes, the hardware makes all the difference. Bags themselves are constrained in shape and size by functional concerns, but creating the hardware that holds them together (and that often makes them distinct) allows designers a little bit more aesthetic freedom. On the brand new Victoria Beckham Money Clutch Shoulder Bag, that freedom was put to excellent, restrained use.
Beckham’s bag line debuted with a bang (and with price tags worthy of conversation), but over time, the bags have evolved in much the way that Victoria herself has; the look of this new one is tailored and subtle, with no external branding at all. It’s the kind of bag that people will ask you about–where it’s from, who makes it, how much was it–which is always an indication of a strong design debut.
As the name indicates, the strap can also be removed and the body of the bag used as a clutch, but as a shoulder bag, it’s big enough to be carried during the day. Mercifully, Victoria’s pricing has evolved along with her look; this bag can be yours in one of three colors for $1,450 via Net-a-Porter.
You write about the evolution of Victoria Beckhams handbag offerings. That would be a really cool regular article. How various handbag brands have evolved.
Looks like the brand name is engraved on the strange looking hardware. The flap section is too deep and the hardware too large. A more proportional design execution would look quite good.
agree ,,, absolutely right
These leave me cold. They are plain vs. classically restrained and the hardware is just an odd shape. These put me in the mind of Diane Von Furstenberg bags and not in a good way.
Can’t bring myself to buy ANYTHING from VB. She’s a friggin’ Spice Girl!!!!!
I certainly wouldn’t plunk down $1500 for one of her bags.
It’s a No No for me. Doesn’t look nice at all. The design looks similar to some of the handbags
sold on the high street.
I like the shape…
