New collections are stocked up in stores, and that’s given us time to shop around and notice some emerging patterns. We already made note of some of spring’s biggest trends, but if you think that’s all the footwear market has to offer, think again. Last spring was full of sky-high platforms, and it’s become clear these platforms are still dominant.
Platforms have faded in and out of the footwear spectrum for years. The last thing to spur a real resurgence of platforms was after the debut of the Saint Laurent Tribute Sandal almost ten years ago, and they stuck around for years after before ceding to single-sole pumps and sneakers. Like clockwork, everything that goes out of style eventually comes back, and platforms, whether you like it or not, aren’t an exception.
Gucci confirmed the resurgence of the style when shoes with a 2.25 inch from platform hit the runway, and while those are by far the most dramatic of the season, designers hopped on the platform bandwagon in both modest and extravagant ways. Check out some of the new options below.
I like the Jimmy Choo and Aquazurra sandals. I think the block heel trend this Spring is pretty cool, especially with all the 70s silhouettes that are in fashion right now. At least they look more comfortable than trying to totter on a platform shoe with a stiletto heel.
Thank God they’re back in style. I’m only 5’1″ and platforms are my best friends…
I’m about the same height so I love anything with a platform!
Myself, I could do without platforms forever but I am tall. The thing I really like about fashion today is there is really something for everyone. Yes, these monster platform shoes are an option but so are single soled shoes, mules, sandals, and pumps. So each to their own.
Finally, they’re back! All the shorties out there can now be happy and in peace. Plus, they’re so much more comfortable. Those Gucci ones are insane! I can’t imagine walking in them.
