Every quarter, Lyst releases a report which analyzes the online shopping habits of shoppers. This report, called the Lyst Index, takes into account Google searches, sales, as well as other data such as brand and product social media call outs plus engagement stats worldwide. Being that the report is issued quarterly it takes into account data from a three month period.
Lyst’s 4th quarter 2018 report was just released, and unsurprisingly, Gucci came out on top. In the last 3 months of 2018, more than 6 million shoppers searched for a Gucci product online—bags, shoes, belts, you name it, consumers craved it. In Q3, Off-White held the top spot, while Balenciaga remained #3 in both Q3 and Q4.
Other notable mentions include Fendi, which jumped from #9 in Q3 to #5 in Q4. This jump in popularity comes on the heels of the release of Fendi Mania, proving that the logo love trend remains strong. Additionally, Burberry jumped into the top 10 (from #14), potentially proving that Riccardo Tisci’s new marketing technique, Burberry ‘B Series‘ is seeing success.
Product wise, Gucci also took the top spots as most popular, with Gucci’s ever-popular SoHo Disco bag coming in at #1 and Gucci’s logo belt, #2.
I’ve been surprised at how much Gucci’s often-jeweled (but not always) bee motif hasn’t been seen. I’ve never even see the Queen Bee herself (Beyonce) tote one around, which surprises me considering how much Gucci she’s been wearing since the Lemonade album.
Needs more bees!
I think part of the increased popularity for Gucci is that they are better priced! When Chanel is AUD$7000 for the ML classic flap, you can get a Marmont for AUD$2600 (or even $1600 for a mini).
So true and hope Louis Vuitton also learn something from Gucci too. I know some of my friends no longer buying STUFF( Ops sorry Miranda P! )from Louis Vuitton due to the over priced and no quality. Think we are getting more sensitive with the price and being more realistic.
It also has a lot to do with its appeal to younger generations that use social media, therefore it seems to be everywhere.
I’d like to know where Hedi’s Celine is
Ahahaha. About to have the plug pulled on him. Unless they’re gonna focus on Asia’s market as their main source of revenue. His stuff is doing… not as well as they’d hoped it would. It went from sophisticated office wear (how I think of Céline lol) to club dress to attend Studio 54 in the 70s over night. To harsh of a contrast for Céline and also wayyy to similar to what he did at YSL. Who knows though.
probably not even on the list…such a terrible designer
I’ve always been a Gucci girl. I love especially the shoes!
I’m shocked Balenciaga came in at #3.
I love Gucci but might need to take a step back after their blackface issue. Its 2019 they knew what they were doing and sadly they were already successful and felt they need publicity. They didn’t see Prada go through this last year? Dumb.
Seriously, do you refer to the balaclava sweater? While the sweater is no doubt odd and I would never purchase I certainly do not see it as a racial statement. We go too far, I am all about equality for all but we simply cannot turn something as simple as a weird sweater that happens to a black sweater trimmed in red that covers some of the face a racist statement. So many racist skiers on the slopes if that is the case.
Let me guess, you aren’t “Black”? Before you make a statement like that, walk awhile in a “Black person’s shoes. Oh! My bad– unless you’re a person of color you can’t speak to what is racist.
I’m black and I did not find it racist either. Ugly, yes but racist, no. Especially since I found out that it came in other colors. I thought I was the only black woman one that felt it was not offensive until I chatted with a group of friends (who are also all black) at brunch and they all said the same thing.
Perhaps if you lived thru the era of civil rights, you and your brunch buddies would view it very differently.
Janet, I do not think I need to have lived in a certain era to tell you what I feel is offensive or not. I (as in I am giving my opinion) did not consider the sweater to be black face. Therefore you have no right to tell me I am wrong about how I feel. This mob mentality I am seeing that is happening towards other black people that do not share the same views or outrage as you is becoming quite annoying. If you were offended then fine, do not support Gucci and move on, but stop being dogmatic towards someone else who does not feel the same way you do.
You are entitled to your opinion as am I and I am entitled to disagree with you. I am not telling you how you show think, I am telling you that I don’t agree with the way you think and I will NOT change my opinions based on your views or opinions nor do I expect you to change your view. You can’t tell me what I should or should not do. This is a discussion forum–if you can’t stand to see the comments or dialogue of others, maybe you should get off of the site/
Felicia, I don’t think she said she can’t stand to see the comments. What she said is you don’t have the right to tell her how she feels is wrong. The sweater was ugly! Blackface? Give me a break. To be clear, I’m not telling you what to be offended by, I’m just telling you that I don’t agree with your opinion. And as they say, opinions are like AH’s everyone has one. It was a sweater that covered half of the models face with a cut out for their mouth. Give me a break. If you are looking to be offended, I’m pretty sure you can be offended by just about anything. You certainly had no problem offending Janet.
As I said before, you are displaying the typical dogmatic mentality that is getting nothing accomplished. All this energy and frustration you have towards a company that I doubt you even shop at will only raise your blood pressure. But go off Sis!
Bye Felicia!!!
You do realize that you don’t get to tell historically marginalized people would they should and should not be offended by? Just because you or some skiers hitting the slopes don’t see it as racist doesn’t mean it isn’t racist. Try to remember that while you revel in all of your privilege, Sandy.
Well said. I hate it when people from their place of privilege tell me not to be offended.
Yes seriously. If the question comes up in design as can this be construed as racist then you don’t make it. This sweater could actually have been kind of funky and cute in other colors. The black with the red around the lips is black face. We aren’t talking about a ski mask. It’s been a pretty big issue for a long time. If it doesn’t bother you then oh well. But clearly Gucci got the message. The point is they should know better as most people should.
It did come in multiple colors. Rhianna even wore the multicolor version with gold lips to Coachella.
Good to know! Black was clearly the wrong choice with the red. ?
I saw this sweater on the Gucci website a few months ago and immediately saw it as black face and was offended. I know that Gucci’s designs are frequently over the top and this time they crossed the line. I agree with you that Gucci got the message so hopefully it won’t happen again. I’m also curious if this issue will decrease their profits or if ppl will continue to purchase due the quality and the prices?
I just read where the top executives at Gucci are flying from Italy to meet some top diverse designers in Harlem to have open conversation about this and how to correct this issue. When you have rappers, models, and other wealthly minorities vowing to boycott you make changes. They need those people to continue making the style popular.
The bag and watch drew me in, but I’m going to pass because of the blackface issue too. I believe they knew exactly what they were doing, got free publicity via the Twitter outrage and then issued the apology. Passing on Prada too.
That bag on top of this article is exquisite–I want it!
All of the Top 5 brands are Millennial popular brands such as Gucci, Off White, and Balenciaga. I think this just shows that the consumer market of young people is more lucrative than we think. Or it just shows that young people are more adept when it comes to technology lol. I for one am not shopping at these brands cuz there is no value in investing my money on these temporarily popular brands ?
?
This purse: Nope! Still dislike the logo-mania canvas, especially combined with random reptile skins, lion’s head clasp reminiscent of the old Versace medusa symbol, more logos/names on clasps, pyramid studs “borrowed” from Valentino. What happened to Gucci’s less-is-more elegance — a single logo on a clasp, one showcase emblem or a discreetly placed nameplate/embossing? BTW, WHAT is the brand “Off-White?” Never heard of it…. gauging from the tacky clothing shown on its website, no loss.
I just looked at the sweater and I can’t see why anyone would call it a black face and racist. What if it was brown and red or white and red? I just think the racist card has been overplayed. The Prada ad was bad, but I don’t see the Gucci being a racist statement.
I am white and I thought it was black face.
It is also an unattractive sweater which falls into the majority of Gucci’s designs. Most are not “pretty” but their appeal is more that the designs are very loud and easy to identify.
