For Fall 2018, Louis Vuitton has released a capsule collection of handbags called the Time Trunk line, which features trompe l’oeil trunk detailing over the top of, among other things, the brand’s classic monogram print. If that sounds oddly familiar, it’s because for Summer 2018, Louis Vuitton released a capsule collection of handbags with illustrated trunk details over, among other things, the brand’s classic monogram. I didn’t like that group of bags so much, but thankfully, this one is a lot better. Sometimes the second time is the charm.
When you compare those two collections, you see just how much a good idea is nothing without solid execution. The Time Trunk collection takes a more vintage approach to the illustrations than the summer collection did, which means they’re more muted and less cartoonish, with an overall more luxurious feel. On the pieces that use monogram, the execution of the print is also a little different than on standard bags—it’s more blurred and painterly, which makes it resemble the monogram canvas on the brand’s historical trunks. If monogram isn’t your thing, there are also bags that use different backgrounds, which are a little more visually simple.
These bags are part of the brand’s Fall 2018 collection, which is online and in boutiques now. The Time Trunk line also includes some silks and small accessories. Check the bags out below.
somehow these are worse than the ones with famous painting on them.
I like them
Still not a a fan. It’s just too busy. Maybe I’m just not an LV woman.
Awful. Ugh. And I love LV. 🙁
LV is beginning to consistently look like a FIDM’s student’s first semester final project. Ugh.
I am sure that Nicolas Ghesquière has a lot to learn from you. 😉
Actually, the Time Trunk Collection (FW18) came before the Summer collection. It was shown on the runway and inspired the–I agree with you here–not-so-great summer version that ended up preceding it. The FW version is much superior in terms of design elements and details.
LV bags are getting uglier by the minute….too bad.
I really dislike this concept, but #6, the petite malle, is much prettier than the original one with the weird crosses in the corner. I am not a huge fan of the huge red star either, but it is better! Less awkward.
gross
Will be in Paris, France next April and considering a handbag purchase while there. Louis Vuitton has always intrigued me; however, I cannot get past the brown print because I don’t like brown handbags. These new winter LV travel-themed interest me because I travel a lot and have colorful details, but, again there is the brown monogram as well as faux hardware/badges/etc. I like real…
Congrats on correcting the spelling of trompe l’oeil 😉
I love LV but this collection is a HARD NO.
love it……… i have all the troupe bags form the marc jacobs era done in jacquard and crocodile and got the multicolor speedy because it was the closest thing to a truck they had made these bags are fantastic !!!!!!!!!
Hideous. Are they on drugs at LV?
Je travaille chez Louis Vuitton et personne ne se drogue chez nous, tout va très bien merci!
That Twist is oddly appealing to me
Ooo! I like but have to see in person. Might look like cheap digital printing.
the printing on the bags look cute in pictures but i’m not sure if i would pay for it though
Sorry but no. I wouldn’t carry any of those- not even if somebody gave it to me.
i SO anticipated these bags! when finally saw two in store, realized the illusion via photography was a total factor – that all detail just photo-realistic plastic appliqué. it was an instant thanks but no thanks. the only thing worse now are the orange “holster” style side bags that strap on waist and leg – the ergonomics on that are ???
hated it
The designs are getting worst and worst after Marc Jacob left.
I have the Twist and it looks a LOT better in person! What you can’t see in the pics is how detailed the bags are. They incorporate multiple kinds of leather & canvas plus real metal accents instead of just printing like the Summer collection
I rather like the Alma BB, but it looks as though they (even on the LV website) intentionally made the leather & canvas look as though it were used, with spots on the light leather, scrapes on the striping and smudges throughout. Doubt I’d pay that much for something that looks used/abused rather than just retro.
As I made a comment a few months ago that I turned out to be a bag collector but not a LV fan at all. I pushed myself to purchase Speedy 30 azur just because I was in Paris then I got a clutch from Jeff Koons collab. This collection just screams my name and I would take any and every bag! I just love this collection!
I think the prices are rather high for an Alma if it is mostly coated canvas and not leather…..I was told the other day that a leather specialist who trains people on luxe leather – that LV makes 85% of their bags in canvas. I found that difficult to believe.
sorry but these are plain ugly.
This Is Very Nice Product, You Bag Collection Is Nice.
Buy an authentic vintage LV with authentic patina to the authentic vachetta. Authentic vachetta with Scratches and dark marks all included in the price that reflects condition and age. You might even be able to locate a bag with authentic cracked and soiled authentic monogrammed canvas. ??? I’m all about vintage just not faux vintage….
I miss Marc…..
